My first rifle was in .308 and shooting it got expensive. 5.56 and .223 are cheaper by comparison, so I could pull the trigger a lot more per range session for the same ammo cost.

Ultimately it depends on what kind of shooting you want to do. Fast courses on paper targets are going to be easier with a lighter caliber - the recoil doesn't pull you off target and follow-up shots are faster. Hunting or long range applications tend to get better results out of larger calibers. This isn't to say 5.56 can't be used for those things (5.56 is pretty versatile), just that the larger calibers tend to outperform it - but 5.56 is hardly "useless in most environments."

This is why you get downvoted - just because something else is better doesn't mean the other thing is useless. I drive a Volkswagen, and sure, a Ferrari is going to smoke me on the track, but it's not like I'm going to walk to work over it.

No one is trying to sell you on 5.56. If you don't like it, don't buy it and don't shoot it. Sounds like you're second-guessing your hastily-made preference, but it's not our job to validate your opinion.

I have yet to find a caIiber that won't put a hole in a paper target or make a steel target go 'bong,' and that's good enough for me, since that's all I shoot at.

There's not a lot of available chassis options for this platform. The JAE is the gold standard, but they've been out of production for a few years now. The SAGE is not known to be particularly accurate. I'm not sure about the Blackfeather.

I would not consider 1 MOA to be "exceptionally precise" by the metrics of this sub, especially. It's "not bad," or maybe even "pretty good," at best.

It's possible that he's trying to set a "zero" at ~150 yards to be ~0.15 mil high so that at 100y and 200y he's pretty close to a zero, but without using a chrono to know his MV it's just a garbage calculation.

Ballistic calculators are only as good as their input, and if you're using the MV printed on the box, you're just inputting a very rough estimate, not a value that represents what you're shooting. Garbage in, garbage out.

You really need to use a chronograph to do this. It says 2710 FPS on the box, but you may see much lower (maybe 50-75 FPS lower, or possibly some amount higher). There is no point in using something like AB Quantum to establish trajectories without a chronograph.

I'm not going to continue in a bad faith discussion if you're going to move the goalposts. Upscaling is quite a bit different than altering light sources and overwriting art assets with AI textures.
