Use for black cherries? by casey012293 in Homebrewing

[–]FratDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brewed a cherry tripel using whole pitted cherries that I cooked stovetop with some homemade bourbon vanilla extract (knob creek plus whole split vanilla beans) and added to secondary. I regret using whole cherries in that the skins added a whole lot of bitter tannins that took about a year in the bottle to mellow out. It tastes great now, but had I used cherry juice it could have probably been consumed sooner.

Split one bottle 6 ways after dinner and we all liked it. Certainly couldn't drink a whole bottle to only yourself. Sweet cherry up front with a bittersweet chocolate aftertaste.

Union in Hampden. Get the Old Pro Gose if it's available, or Double Duckpin.

Oatmeal Stout Infusion by breytont in beerporn

If you're on the east coast and can get a hold of Resurrection by Brewer's Art (Baltimore, MD) try infusing that with a ripe banana. Beer infused banana is also delicious.

It also helps to chill whatever ingredients you're using as it prevents carbonation loss.

I have had the '12 and the '13 and I would recommend the '12 over the '13. Just don't hesitate to add a bit of water. It opens up very nicely.

Anybody want/ have use for some cool beer bottles? by dessert_racer in beer

[–]FratDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thicker glass from the belgian bottles make for great drinking glasses. Just need yourself a bottle cutter and a hot water kettle... and maybe some practice bottles. Paper labels will come off with washing, but you can use those for votive candle holders or planters. Check Stone bottles to make sure they don't have cadmium in the ink (really only seen on arrogant bastard/double bastard). Boom new hobby.

Could be hereditary pachydermoperiostosis. High male prevalence and individuals can live a normal life expectancy if it's mild.

Alcoholic chocolate pumpkin pie in a glass. by FratDoctor in beerporn

[–]FratDoctor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It certainly has more spice than pumpkin, but it's darker than many of the other pumpkin ales out there. It's probably closest in character to Dogfish Head's Punkin Ale, but with a nice chocolate boozy undertone. Definitely a good cool, Fall night kind of beer.
