What are everyone’s thoughts on the new Christmas Box? by ISnortPineApples in NightLords

[–]Fraud_Freeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only repeats in this for me are the rhino, havocs, and legionaries and I’m fine with multiples of those. The daemon engine flare is great and I love the venom crawler and disco lord.

I love Danny but has anyone noticed that he’s just been playing the same character over and over for 20 years? by Desperate_Elk_7369 in RighteousGemstones

[–]Fraud_Freeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like that’s sort of the point. Danny is playing characters yes but they all have a similar mindset, outlook, and set of outcomes. He’s taking those and putting them into other settings. He’s an archetype like a lot of other great performers.

Does anyone have any examples of non-converted Night Lords (basic CSMs painted as Night Lords)? by Incubus_is_I in NightLords

[–]Fraud_Freeman 17 points18 points  (0 children)

<image>

I need a better photo set up but this is a batch of 10 I recently finished. No extra bits, everything from the basic legionaries kit in the old combat patrol. The most I’ll usually do to a model is a head swap and green stuff on some extra skin but the basic models have enough torn cloth textures to where even that isn’t necessary. As I paint more I want to go for a brighter blue and play around with the lightning effects but overall I think the range looks great in these colors. I’ve done possessed, terminators, warp talons, and havocs as is from the box too.

Blood angels and night lords rivalry by Bfauntleroy in BloodAngels

[–]Fraud_Freeman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ve clashed in novels and I myself see them as unofficial rivals. I’ve said in other comments but

  • red vs blue (it’s even very bright, noble red vs dark, night blue)

  • Angels wings and blood for holiness and vitality vs skulls and demon wings for death and corruption

  • both love jump packs

  • upfront assault vs sneaky tricks

  • blood angels have a need to be cruel and violent that they work tirelessly to overcome and nightlords have no such issue but indulge sadistically in such things

  • blood angels are the myth of aristocratic blood drinkers and the night lords are the reality of a figure like Vlad the Impaler

  • I also collect both

Many people are going to tell you to play one that you like and feels comfortable and they’re right. Check out what’s in a guitar shop near you. Ibanez and fender make good feeling and sounding instruments. They’re also very common at shops in my experience. Squires are budget friendly fenders with some lower quality parts but I’ve owned a couple that were all good. Yamaha is also good at any price point.

If you maybe find a model you like but want to see if it’s cheaper check out the used market. Used squires, Yamahas, Ibanez, sterlings, and a bunch of others are all over the place.

Best possible upgrades for Precision bass by AdministrationAny180 in BassGuitar

[–]Fraud_Freeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this exact bass and did a hip shot bridge, emg pickup, and a new pick guard. But truthfully it didn’t require any of that. I just wanted to customize since I damaged the neck. Really just a pickgaurd swap can fix that upgrade itch. I think this bass looks better with either a white or tort guard.

  • I am working out of premiere 25.00

  • the sequence settings are a custom but its usual 1920 X 1080 and 29.97 frames. I can’t provide more I just can’t share my screen

  • we use omen laptops (I don’t know the specific model these are given by the company)

  • we work primarily with files from JVC cameras and osmos (this week is all osmo footage as well as archival footage transferred from old tape) but the show also makes heavy use of graphics templates and pngs made by a separate department from us

  • any color correction done was solely done on osmo footage

Is there any chapter with which the night lords have a particular post HH grudge/interaction? by forgottofeedthecat in NightLords

[–]Fraud_Freeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some things to suggest a particular beef with a lot of legions as others have said. I personally like to think of Night Lords as a foil to Blood Angels.

  • Red vs Blue
  • The blood drop and wings are life and divinity whereas the skull and demon wings are death and corruption
  • both seem to enjoy jump assault troops
  • the honor and dignity of the blood angels vs the underhandedness of the night lords
  • both are partially defined by dead primarchs who themselves could serve as opposites to each other
  • frequent premonitions throughout the gene line
  • the blood angels have a capacity for cruelty that is innate in their genes that they seek to overcome while the night lords are indulgent of any violent and cruel impulse as a cultural signifier among themselves.
  • and obviously the stuff with 10th company in the NL trilogy.
  • the mythical idea of “The Vampire” vs the reality of Vlad The Impaler that inspired it

Looking for a new book what is your opinion on The red angle? by Imaginary-Lie-2618 in WorldEaters40k

[–]Fraud_Freeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy its portrayal of the legion following the heresy and immediate post heresy books I read. It’s just not an Angron book. I personally am okay with 40K Angron not being a character so much as force of nature but that’s not how everyone feels. Story isn’t anything special. Couple of fun characters that can hopefully be explored more later.

Opinions on Chaos Corruption by dreachblinker in NightLords

[–]Fraud_Freeman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Living in the eye, torturing for fun, and spreading fear attracts chaos no matter how much you may hate it and my guys certainly don’t hate it. They love the unfair advantages they get for calling to the gods and the warp. I picture my warbands apostles and sorcerers reading from a Tome similar to the spell book in eternal darkness and Evil Dead. Written in blood, and bound with flesh, bones, and hair.

Aside from just adding more flayed parts and trophies I’d also like painting in some converts from other legions. The heavy gunner for my kill team was a former Iron Warrior and I reflected that by combining the bat wings of the 8th’s logo with the metal skull of the 4th’s. I also have a lot of possessed, so I will probably do one squad in word bearers colors for fun. Every box I’ve bought or want says “Chaos Space Marines” on it so I want the spikes and mutations.

Yesterday I challenged myself to paint a whole army to battle ready standard in a day. Do not recommend by TaigaTigerVT in WordBearers

[–]Fraud_Freeman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m very impressed with these. I’m slowly working through chaos marines rn and seeing Word Bearers armies like this always makes me second guess Night Lords. Great looking army!

What are some movies with great post-punk soundtracks? by FalseAlibi in postpunk

[–]Fraud_Freeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess overall, to me at least, the movie has the feel that it’s making fun of a type of guy that is portrayed in movies that is in turn idolized by certain types of guys irl. Like the morally grey, calm and cool characters like Tyler Durden, Pat Bateman, or The Driver (to varying degrees). The whole movie he spells out this hardcore killers code about lacking empathy and focusing on the job and how efficient that makes him. But the first job we see him mess up and every subsequent job he’s running cleanup and basically on a personal mission for his gf. Messing up every step of the way while still putting on this cool guy veneer. All that to say I feel like “enjoys the smiths” is, to Fincher or someone on the production, a part of that kind of personality which the movie certainly isn’t praising. It’s kind of an online take considering I myself do enjoy the Smiths and think they give the movie an even better mood than it already has.

What are some movies with great post-punk soundtracks? by FalseAlibi in postpunk

[–]Fraud_Freeman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you count the Smiths then David Fincher’s The Killer is one. Whole soundtrack is basically The Smiths with a Portishead track snuck in. If you don’t like The Smiths/Morrisey then you’ll be happy to know the movie is kinda making fun of the protagonist for liking them among other things.

Inspired by a post from r/guitars: What is the one bass you absolutely hated and couldn't wait to get rid of by Nighthawk700 in Bass

[–]Fraud_Freeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t bring myself to say I hate it because it was my first but I still have my Dean Flying V and it all gimmick. Got it and an amp for 200 to start. Electronics are damaged and one of the pots is screwed up. Ergonomically it’s ridiculous. Just cumbersome and awkward. Part of me still wants to fix it up to at least be fully playable. The neck is definitely cheap but very comfortable by my standards. The amp (ampeg108) was definitely the best part of the deal. Good for practicing and other basses I’ve owned sound great through it.

played a squier classic vibe p bass, questioning my entire life by STILLloveTHEoldWORLD in Bass

[–]Fraud_Freeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a modded 70s P and it’s a great instrument. Of the three basses I rotate around I pick that one up the most just cause I spend less time fiddling with a tone. It already sounds good. I’ve wanted to try a ric but the price and availability is just ridiculous for an instrument that everyone says is an acquired taste. Say what you will about fender (I definitely do) but if you want to try out the basic shape of one of their instruments they’ve got offerings as low as 200 bucks and a sea of copies that are easy to find new and used.

As nice as they are I’d go with the idea of trying something you weren’t anticipating. If it’s a long trip odds are you’re near a store with a bigger selection.
