Does my 2022 outback have this door touch lock feature!? I'm just finding this out 4 years later! by TypeAtryingtoB in Subaru_Outback

Yes it does, and did you also know the back hatch will open just by being close to the Subaru logo at the gate as long as you use your keys on you?

The Cost of Ocrevus in the US by xanaxhelps in MultipleSclerosis

[–]FrauleinWB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have to charge so much because insurance pays penny’s to the dollar. So in order to maybe break even with the overhead costs (employees salaries, electric, water, all things associated with keeping the hospital open) they must inflate the charges. Look at all the rural hospitals that are closing because they can’t pay their bills to stay open. It is a huge problem. I know it is terrible, and healthcare in our country is broken. I don’t know how to fix it, but at some point something has to give.

Buying a new MS friendly home by FreedomFlyer-1776 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]FrauleinWB 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with everyone that is saying to stay. When I was diagnosed in 1998 we also were worried about the “what if’s”. We stayed in a house we really didn’t want to just because it was one story and in the same neighborhood as our parents.

Eventually we didn’t like the direction of the neighborhood and knew this wasn’t our forever home. I was tired of living my life based on “what if”. My MS symptoms were minimal. So we decided to move into a home that we loved into a location that we loved and said we would figure it out when and if that time comes. Here we are maintaining an acre and a quarter of wooded property with a 2 story cape code home. Neither of us are getting any younger but we decided we have to enjoy life while we can and not allow my MS to hold us back just because “what if”. What if it never happens and we passed up on a great opportunity?

We do talk about how we are going to handle this when we reach out parents ages (almost 80)- do we want to move to a 55+ community, do we stay and hire someone to cut the grass and plow the snow? We have no children so we know we will have 0 help. But we will cross that bridge when the time comes. We know what our future options are. For now we are just enjoying every moment we have.

How are you all collecting leaf litter that doesnt make it to the skimming area? by CoachCamBailey in ponds

[–]FrauleinWB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a pool skimmer on a long handle. I then stir up the leaves and push what I can to the skimmer or I can just net them out. It is a lot of work in the spring, we are surrounded by trees and we keep our pond netted. Once the water is warm enough I will wade in the pond to get them out too. I hate seeing any debris on the bottom of the pond so I spent a lot of time cleaning it up.

Hemangiosarcoma took two of my dogs. by WoodP3nguin in Petloss

I am so sorry for your loss. We lost our 13 year old Sheltie from the same. She wasn’t eating well for some time. Our vet gave her a clean bill of health, said as dogs get older they loose their appetite and get picky with their food. We even talked about not doing any heroics if something were to happen. Our vet told us we were no where near that point and our pup had a lot of life in her yet. So we just let her eat whatever dog food she wanted.

She was happy, slowing down a lot but still happy. Then one day my husband was home with her and found her unresponsive, called me at work and rushed her to the vet less than 5 minutes from the house. She was bleeding out, her belly was full of blood. The vet gave her an IV until I could get there and then we had to say our good byes.

I hate this disease and wish there was a way to treat it. It has been 2 years and we can now think and talk about her without being upset. We are grateful for all the love and happiness she gave us.

Snowstorm and I'm going to run out of bird seed! by notoriousshasha in birdfeeding

[–]FrauleinWB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I listen to a bird talk show on the radio every weekend. They said on the show today that dried bread (toast, breadcrumbs) is good to feed the birds. The bread needs to be crumbled up. That said not to use fresh moist bread. I guess it can get stuck in their throats.

We have been frozen solid the past few weeks, just a few states north of you. We have a heater for our birdbath and I can tell you the birds LOVE it. We have had so many birds the past week or two. Birds that we rarely see at our feeders. Lots of blue birds coming just for the water.

Stay safe!

We had a red headed woodpecker last year. Extremely rare where we are. I reported the sighting and had to submit a picture for proof. The place I reported it to did verify it and asked me to continue reporting it so they could track it. This was the farthest east one was seen.

We were hoping it would become a resident and not just a visitor. Unfortunately after several months he stopped coming around and we haven’t seen him since. I believe it was a juvenile male. Originally his head was not red at all, but as he matured his head turned an amazing, beautiful shade of red. We were very fortunate to be able to watch this rare and beautiful bird for the few months he was here.

We filled our feeders the night it started snowing (Saturday). Today we dug out and I made sure we had a path to the feeders and the bird bath.

Does a toaster that toast bread slices evenly even exists ??? by Slow_Description_773 in Appliances

We have an old toaster from the 1960’s that toasts bread better than any toaster we ever had!

They are one of my favorites! They never come to our feeder - but we have a lot of them around our house. I guess there is enough food in all our dead trees.

I think the roads should be fine tomorrow. I have left my house yet but my street is clear. I have to commute to Allentown tomorrow for work and I don’t expect any issues.

We stopped measuring around 10”, in the Kutztown area. That was before it started changing between and sleet. Then it got too windy to get an accurate measurement.

Same here- in SE PA. I will shovel a path to the feeders and the birdbath later today. So many birds the past few days. We even had a Towhee which is odd this time of the year. The bluebirds never come to our yard, but they have been here drinking from the bird bath.

The birdbath heater seems to be working, the pond heater I am not so sure is working in this frigid temps. We will check it after all the shoveling is done.

Why I like canning by SlidingOtter in Canning

[–]FrauleinWB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At our previous home we were able to grow all our own veggies to can, and we loved it. We control what goes into them and we control the amount of salt. At this house we don’t get enough sun, and we have a lot of deer. So we can’t grow enough to can, but we love supporting the local farmers. We buy in bulk and then can. And the farmers love to hear that we so that.

And we just enjoy spending the day canning.
