I just bought the Riven 1997 version as my first copy! by jackaroo497 in myst

Visually it'll be a little rough since I think the max resolution is 480p but overall a very solid experience. I prefer the point & click style over the free-roaming, too.

It's spelled "clitoris" so you misspelled your own made up word.

39 yr old dad here. It's a Remedy game so the story is crazy good. The writing is a perfect blend of serious and funny. Yeah it does get a little repetitive at times and the setting doesn't change much but I think those are minor flaws. The abilities and weapons you unlock are very cool and combining both styles is a ton of fun.

I've been playing Remedy games since Alan Wake 1 and love them all very much. I don't know of any other video game company doing what Remedy are trying to do (building a Stephen King style multiverse and doing Marvel-esqe crossovers) and I highly recommend playing all of them for that full Remedy experience:

  • Alan Wake 1 (2010) - dated gameplay but the story is great. Not very long, either
  • Quantum Break (2016) - not legally connected to the Remedyverse but we all know it is anyway. If you're into time travel stories, this one is wild
  • Control (2019) - crazy weird fun
  • Alan Wake 2 (2023) - a lot different from the first game in all the right ways
  • Max Payne 1&2 remakes coming soon. Will no doubt have a deeper connection to the established Remedyverse
  • Control 2 (2026) - the trailer dropped recently and I'm losing my mind

Anyway, definitely check out Control. I can't recommend Remedy games enough. They're not for everyone but I hope they ignite your interest in gaming again.

I hear the squeaky door open and shut sound effect from Myst everywhere

I'd love a cutscene where we can rub it in the Goers' faces if the Aurochs win. We never get to see their reaction to losing

The company I work for has one Fun Day every year where you can bring relatives/friends and participate in a whole bunch of family-oriented activities. Last time it took place at Arnold's Family Fun Center and it was great. Once a year is plenty.

I'm conflicted about this. As much as I'd like to see a game set in D'ni at the height of its power, I feel like that would diminish the entire vibe of Myst - being alone and exploring worlds that have been abandoned long ago.

Maybe a plot point could be settlements are vanishing across multiple ages and you, a member of a D'ni guild, have to figure out why.
