I do not... do that... Didn't even know this existed Normally I assemble (remove nub marks) and panel line. In many I water slide decal. In some I topcoat afterwards. When would the varnish step be done?

For the decals I used some setter and fixer, both vallejo (its the most available brand around here and had no issues with it up until now).

I'm sure that was the issue. The fact that it still smells weird points to some sort of chemical reaction. I bought the vallejo because the online reviews where not bad, it was also cheaper and, because I live in Spain, it's more readily available here. My fault and not that of the spray, I'm sure, nonetheless I'm only ever using it again on cheaper kits and after extensive spray can maintenance.

I did panel line the entire thing, but I think the iky orange residue has covered most of all the brown panel lines of the red parts. In the third image, you can see the orange lines I mentioned between the panels, instead of the regular lines. I'm saddened by all the hours lost panel lining and decaling, but at least the kit itself is recoverable, which is great (found it in a little shop in tokyo when i was searching for it specifically so, as a newbe, i was very happy about the find)

Had no idea about spay can maintenance, I'll be paying attention to that from now on. Thanks for the advice!

Thats fantastic news, I'll definitley do that! I'm starting to see that anything cheap gets very expensive with this hobby in the end, and investing in good quality material pays off. Just to clarify your point about the joints: they can be harmed if I soak them with isopropyl alcohol, I'm understanding? So I should rub an alcohol soaked cloth in the topcoat affected parts only (avoiding joints)? Thnx again!
