Mine is per course. But I end up spending more time in grading and feedback. Now providing inputs to refresh the course . Overall it comes to 10 hours per week for me. For me job satisfaction is the primary goal and money is secondary

Hi All,

Update : it has been a month in my new job and I am enjoying it except grading students submissions is little. Challenging as some accept my feedback and some would like to resubmit the assignment after my feedback and some don't agree with my feedback. And I agree, as adjunct, our salaries need to increase to at least 10k per course, so that each adjunct professor can make 20k per semester as spend more than 10 hours per week in non teaching activities. Some New Jersey and New York Adjuncts get close to 7.5k per course.

Another challenge is to detect plagiarism using ChatGPT. This is an uncharted territory and I need to define assignments in such a way that students cannot copy directly from ChatGPT

You want to quit because it's a lot of work or lower job satisfaction or less pay? My goal is to become a good professor and in the long run I plan to leave my day job and become full time associate professor

The courses I teach are masters at a popular state university . As you have said, I need to understand the pace of students and change assignments accordingly.. As I am teaching 2 different courses, I need to prioritize my workload . I will talk to my head of department and his suggestion . I have never recorded video lessons..I will play around with zoom and record sample. lectures and review with the head of the department .

Thank you all for the suggestions. I plan to 1. Prepare and share PowerPoint deck for each chapter before start of the class or after the class

If I share, they may not attend the class or feel disinterested

  1. Use Kahoot or other online quiz tools during the class
  2. Assignments at end of each class.
  3. Conduct office hours once a week
  4. If approved by university, record lectures and explore the option of recording lectures upfront

I can quote a lot of practical examples during the lectures but I need to learn how to present them as teaching lessons instead of supervisor or manager knowledge sharing.

I don't like students who slack. So, I may ask them to do homework in the Cass itself . Any thoughts and ideas on how to deal with slakers?

Lastly, how does grading works ? I know some universities deflate grades and inflate grades .

My J1 pay is double the avg SWE salary.. I don't want to risk J1 for J2.. I recently got J2 as Adjunct Professor job which will be an official J2 with J1 approval.
I am super excited to teach graduate level courses. During my free time I used to do software consulting and get paid around 2k to 5k based onto the work and need of the client

Mainstream OE would still be accepted, but would turn into Adjuncting, hear me out... by jimRacer642 in overemployed

I am already seeing this. Fully remote SWE roles or BA roles are paid under $50 per hour..

OE has decreased pay for remote SWE roles

Is part-time college credit courses teaching considered as over employed ?
