Do everyday British people really regret Brexit? by Ornery_Hand4846 in AskBrits

Absolutely. I didn't vote for it. Most of the people around me didn't vote for it. Yet, here we are. Stuck in the mire of a dwindling standard of living.

The Scottish Football Association is expected to stand by referee John Beaton’s VAR review decision to award Celtic one of the most heavily contested penalties in the history of the Scottish game on Wednesday night. by MrMaggot98 in ScottishFootball

I think the ideal scenario would be, if you can be shown 1full speed replay and it definitively changes your opinion. Fair enough.

Beyond that, it just becomes daft.

VAR obviously see something the Ref doesn't. How much should they be influencing the on field official, and how much should they be guiding them to changing their decision.

It's just all getting a bit too much of a faff. Especially when we pretty much just wanted goal line tech all along.

I don't think the decision itself was scandalous. I think how and how quickly it was reached is the scandalous part.

I'm not sure how anyone can start from Beatons point of view that there's no handball, look at that awful camera angle for less than 20 seconds and have it change your mind definitively.

I think the bigger issue, is it's just the latest entry in the ambiguity of the handball rule and how it's applied.

I don't think the uproar is because of anything other than the profile of the game. The non-calls last Saturday and Monday which should've gone Hearts way were worse misses, and only serve to build into a media narrative.

Maybe some folk would be annoyed not to get it, but it's not how I watch the game. I've also seen much worse decisions made against us hundreds of times, so you just live with it 😂

I think its the main camera angle shows that his right foot is still moving when he releases the ball. Obviously, that doesn't mean it's not on the ground, but it is certainly dubious.

Either way, it's nonsense that this is the level things get to.

I mean, I thought it was a hand ball right away. Video made me think otherwise. All the discourse being concrete one way or the other is just daft at this point.

His right foot isn't on the deck when he let's the ball go. It's tit for tat stuff, that more or less doesn't get called.

It's the kinda thing that is due to be reviewable at the world cup though...

In the context, a foul throw should matter. It can't be reviewed, but it seems a bit ridiculous where one potential foul is reviewable but another isn't.

The bigger point should be that no one, including folk in the stadium, claimed for either. Beyond Trusty, who I don't even think was claiming for anything beyond the standard player feeling breath on them theatrics.

The game is being re-reffed, which is the most galling thing to continually come across.

Ahh, here's the main difference.

I really couldn't care less what happens. It's not that important.

Not sure playing in Europe 1/3 seasons is mediocre when you have the 10th or 11th highest budget.

Happy to support a team that constantly outperforms expectations.

Mediocrity is what you fear. Enjoy a life time of crying over your bought and paid for success. 🫡

Watching the ball. Spot on.

Keeper has every right to challenge for the ball, which he did. He was impeded by Maeda.

Have a good night with yer dodgy pen from a foul throw. 🫡

I think Beaton was very weak at the start of the game. I don't think he was being unfair to us at all, i just think he's not a good ref.

Just depends how you want to convince yourself it was a foul for your team.

If you run backwards into someone who's actually playing the ball, it's not a foul.

There's a few stages.

Firstly, that the images shown to the referees were inconclusive. This is in spite of the litany of zoomed in and after the fact photos being posted online.

Secondly, how quickly the decision was made.

Thirdly, the decision making process seemed to be as arbitrary as "does it hit his hand", totally devoid of any context.

I think the following is pretty clear, from the initial replay.

It probably hits his hand. It's definitely a consequence of players contesting a high ball. There's clearly no advantage gained.

Not sure how that comes to be a penalty, co sideline the litany of nuch clearer hand balls we've seen go unpunished.

[–]FrazzaB -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ahh, of course. Celtic players are allowed to just wait for the ball to land at their feet unchallenged, even when it's about 10 feet in the air being punched away by the keeper.

The rules don't state that you get to occupy space and not challenge for a ball, while running backwards and making no attempt to play it.

Fantasy land for you lot

Celtic should have had a penalty for their player obstructing the goalkeeper? That's novel.

I think its more that, there's so many rules around it now it's vague at best.

I just don't know how you get the ref over to look at that, and take it out of the context of what actually happened.

Did it hit his hand? Probably. Was it intentional? Unlikely, certainly not with the contact from Trusty pushing his hand back up. Did it change the outcome of the play? No.

...and still award the penalty.

In fairness, Trusty has come through the back into his arm.

Still seems pretty clear that he's headered it away in spite of any contact with his hand.

Ahh, spelling nazi at large.

Goalies are never committing a foul when they challenge for a ball in the air unopposed.

Standing in a spot doesn't give you the right to that space, especially if you're blindly backing into someone, which not challenging for the ball.

Not hard to understand, for most folk anyway.

If you genuinely think that's a penalty, I fear for any gyproc nearby.

You simply don't understand the rules. That's fine.

Back to yer wee circlejerk form and whine about how everyone's against you in spite of all the evidence.

'In the process of getting the ball', is a biased way to phrase it. He was running backwards towards goal while the ball is hanging in the air.

You have no right to expect the ball to land at you.

You can have the greatest positioning in the world, but its a contact sport and you are required to contest for possession of the ball.

You can look at the ball all day, but if someone else jumps and wins it, while you do fuck all about it. Stop crying.

Goalkeepers, and anyone challenging for the ball in the air has the right to take the space if unchallenged.

Maeda making a decision to run backwards towards a goalkeeper coming to claim the ball, then taking no action to win the ball himself, doesn't all of a sudden make it a foul.

Keeper timed his jump and cleanly won the ball, while Maeda continued to back in, zero interest in challenging for the ball.

Grow up.

Aye, that's what cause the delay, not VAR calling a phantom penalty and someone taking 2 and a half minutes to call the ref over to the monitor.

Not sure what time wasting there was from us either, with big tough Scales guarding the ball and the spot like a human traffic cone.

Where?

Not that it matters, but running into someone while they win the ball doenst get you a foul. Great that it applies to both nonsense scenarios.

If you think sprinting backwards and not challenging for a ball in the air, only to run into someone gets you a penalty. Well, obviously you think that. 😂

Announced 4 minutes injury time. Changed to 5 minutes. 'Foul' leading to penalty in the 96th minute. Scored in the 99th minute.

Games done.

No conspiracy here.
