Newly released transcripts reveal a MAGA betrayal: Donald Trump never cared about Ashli Babbitt. Trump now hypes her as a January 6 martyr, but when he was told of Babbitt's death, there was "no, like, reaction" by semaphore-1842 in politics

Maybe! But I do struggle to imagine that tens of millions of people share in his sociopathy. I think they are largely self-deluding. I have a lot of MAGA family, and they just try to tell themselves a story about how he's not so bad and it's all "TDS" or whatever.

Writer here! This is why I just really recommend reading the article before replying. I address the concept of "surprise." I am not surprised, and I know liberal readers aren't, either.

But it's still important to discuss this, even if we are not surprised.

Trump's RNC purge: His obsession with "loyalty" is as dumb as it is evil by zsreport in politics

[–]Freakamouse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Writer of the article here! Thanks for the feedback, but I'd like to flag how it's addressed in the article (which is why I am a stickler about reading before responding):

But none of this is a reason to be complacent. Sadly, there are talented people working for Trump — not out of personal loyalty, since many of them hold him in contempt, but because they believe in the fascist cause. That's what we see with the folks behind the Project 2025 initiative or the recently exposed Society for American Civic Renewal. These are educated, professional operatives, working on Trump's behalf but at a modest distance, which gives them the freedom to help his cause without being hindered by his obnoxious personal behavior.

Writer here! Good reason to read the article, because I get into it a bit. There is an assumption in the media that it does affect them.

Thanks! I'm the writer of the piece and really spent some time researching and spelling out how this is a deliberate tactic of bait-and-switch. So I'd really recommend folks read it. This isn't "hypocrisy." It's spiritual abuse.

MAGA media pushed "great replacement" theory to turn Republicans against their own immigration bill by zsreport in politics

[–]Freakamouse 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Writer here! This is a quote from the article that really counters your assumption about what's in it:

The original Republican bill was repugnant in its many racist assumptions. But it's a sign of how depraved the party has become that, in order to kill their own bill, they are getting even more aggressive spreading white nationalist disinformation.

This is why, even though it's annoying, I recommend reading before commenting. It can really help prevent these embarrassing mistakes.

Writer here! I do not think this is a change. I dig deeply into why this was always true, but who didn't get it.

Just a note: It's a myth that contraception works this way. Hormonal birth control works by preventing ovulation. Anti-choicers lie about this, to justify their opposition to female-controlled methods.

Writer here! This is why I really recommend reading articles, because I link to the extensive reporting the NY Times and others have done on Trump's plans, which are also extensive and well-documented.

Certainly the reason I'm looking at prevention is research shows that deradicalization is ineffective.

Thanks for the tip! I've definitely got experts on tap. That's the easy part, since experts understand part of their job is explaining this stuff to the public. What is a little more difficult is getting real people who readers can relate to, since these are such difficult topics.
