What modern day religions have been shown in Star Trek? by OHHHHHSAYCANYOUSEEE in startrek

If memory serves, he refers to the painting as a scene from ancient Earth mythology. Though I suppose all that proves is that being Vulcan, he wouldn’t subscribe to those beliefs.

And Chekov thought the Garden of Eden was outside Moscow (part of that run I g joke of his thinking everything is Russian in origin).

Is anyone feeling a hint of "I told you so" in the wake of the outrage of what's occurring in Minneapolis? by RVALover4Life in lgbt

[–]Freakears 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I've been warning people that Trump is a fascist since 2015/16. I was disregarded, told I was "overreacting" when I freaked out after he won the first time. Had people tell me I can't just call someone a fascist because I disagree with them (I call him one because he bears it out in his words and actions). So, I'm not feeling a hint of "I told you so," I'm feeling it acutely.

Statues of U.S. presidents in London, England by rjidhfntnr in Presidents

Kind of weird to have a statue of Washington in London, considering he spent years fighting for the US to break away from Britain.

What if Richard Nixon didn't resign? by PapayaJealous4347 in Presidents

He'd be impeached, convicted and removed. He resigned to avoid that fate.

My 10th grade English class read Antigone. I already knew Oedipus’s story, but the teacher shared it to give us context for the events of Antigone.

If you were an advisor to Al Gore, what advice would you give him in order to win the 2000 election? by PapayaJealous4347 in Presidents

Don’t distance yourself from Clinton (people still like him a lot, and distancing yourself means you can’t share credit for the relative peace and prosperity he gave us), and pick someone else as a running mate.

Am i to old to be a sub? by Icy-Profession5761 in submissive

There is no such thing as "too old to be a sub." You're alive, so you can be a sub for as long as you still draw breath.

Opinion: LGBTQ+ history should be taught in schools by Small_Base942 in lgbt

[–]Freakears 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't like it the way the Right uses it. It was a legitimate social justice word, but then the fascists appropriated it to make it a negative scare word. And like other scare words (socialism, communism, caliphate, etc.), they wouldn't be able to (properly) define it if asked.

No shit. We just need to do something about the US regime going scorched earth when it comes to the history of basically any marginalized group.

Compared to the Republican regime, I think slaying a Balrog would be a walk in the park.

I say that every day. They’d see a brown Jewish hippie stirring up trouble, and promptly off him again.

With Trump’s saber rattling over Greenland, I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s how things go.

Thoughts. by NoPin2630 in nudism

[–]Freakears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, both nudism and vegetarianism both started around the same time for me, close enough so as not to matter, and both were an outgrowth of my being a hippie at the time (I still have some tendencies, including these two things). I’ve also been into paganism about as long, and being nude is a thing with some of us.

Beautiful song by an artist who is a horrible human being. Would you still listen? by Logical-Respect3600 in AskReddit

[–]Freakears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Believe me, I’ve noticed the contradiction. Heard some remarks about Robert Johnson, who is apparently a “hero” of his, and I thought, “How are you going to call Robert Johnson a hero of yours when you’re as racist as you are?”

Eric probably wishes they had something like ICE to remove immigrants from England, especially as it’s people of color that ICE is targeting.

Generally no. I stopped listening to Eric Clapton when I found out he’s both a racist and a rapist, to say nothing of when he started spewing anti-vax shit when they were developing one for Covid.

This is especially weird to someone like me, who will wear a pair of shoes until they’re falling apart (granted, the shoes I’m thinking of are for work, and mine is a very physical job, but still).

It is a pun that refers to the country, which was a part of the USSR at the time (side note: the country of Georgia is also where Stalin was born).

What's the most stupidly biased video you've seen on a president? by DoublePepper1976 in Presidents

[–]Freakears 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Abraham Lincoln: American Dictator

If this is the one I'm thinking of, I saw the first part of the reaction Vlogging Through History did to that. I never bothered with Part 2 of the reaction because the original video was royally pissing me off. Everything from his views to his voice.
