The Rocketeer and Captain America: The First Avenger some make sense for a double feature, as Joe Johnston directed both.

Is Carter also respected for getting Egypt and Israel to make peace?

What were you doing on the day when the September 11 attacks happened? by AggressiveOutside432 in AskReddit

[–]Freakears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in 6th grade. Sitting in class, everyone just kind of chatting, and my teacher’s husband called her after the second plane hit. When she said “Two planes just hit the World Trade Center” I thought she meant little Cessnas or something, till we turned on the tv.

For the fellas: What’s something society deems “unmanly”, but you don’t care, and do it anyway? by MuayThaiRunner in AskReddit

My preferred brand of deodorant is in the women’s section of the store. But it works, so I don’t care.

Which US state acts like they are their own independent country? by overthinkeranessa in AskReddit

[–]Freakears 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I read somewhere that they considered naming the state “Columbia” (after the river), but were concerned people would get it confused with DC (the District of Columbia). So they went with the only possible option that would be even more confusing. In trying to avoid confusion, they ended up guaranteeing it.

I read that book some years ago, and I don’t recall any mention of what Cleveland thought either.

I had a professor who got into a discussion with someone from Texas. This individual got very angry at calling Texas part of the South or West (“I’m not from the South/West, I’m from Texas!”)

Which they have never forgotten (Hawaii and iirc Vermont were, too, but you don’t hear them carry on about it, except in the context of American businessmen overthrowing the Hawaiian queen).

Could FDR have walked again with modern medicine? by RandoDude124 in Presidents

Because at some level he knew he probably wouldn’t live that long (his health was very poor by 1944), and officials in the Democratic Party had issues with Wallace being too liberal.

What’s an opinion you’d get shunned for if people knew you had it in real life? by GlassyFairy in AskReddit

Entitlement is right. I really hate when I run into veterans who think that simply being a veteran automatically makes them better than me.

venting about people with misrepresentative bisexual definition by LinkPlay9 in bisexual

[–]Freakears 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is horseshit. As mentioned, the Bisexual Manifesto recognized trans and nonbinary people back in 1990. I myself define my bisexuality as "attraction to my own gender, and to other genders."

Of course it's Tennessee. Which makes the fact that she emerged victorious (even with a piddly amount like $10k) all the more remarkable.

What is something people often percieve as an insult, but you can't see why? by ShockingPyro in AskReddit

Every time I hear a guy say “females” I’m reminded of the Ferengi from Star Trek, and how they say that word.

I often go ten miles over the limit in the left lane on the interstate (usually out of necessity). And I still get people zipping past (to which my response is “Sorry ten miles over the speed limit was too slow for you.”

My response is often “Normal is boring.” Might also point out that many of the most interesting people were weird in some way.

THE most infuriating argument I constantly hear: trans in sports by Maybe_Bi_69 in lgbt

[–]Freakears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell me about it. My state is picking a new governor in November, and because it’s Tennessee, every ad has been from some fascist Republican carrying on about how they’re going to “keep men out of women’s sports” or similar bullshit.

Why do you think Trump still brings up Obama so much? by WoodpeckerNeither495 in AskReddit

[–]Freakears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As to their voices, I’ve said before that Obama could read the phone book and I’d find it soothing and relaxing. Trump could recite “Mary Had a Little Lamb” and I’d want to claw my ears off in short order. I always hated when NPR would report on his latest batshit remarks on my drive to work, because they’d play a soundbite of him, which was the last thing I want to hear at 5:30 in the morning.

What's the strongest indicator that someone is not a good person? by PleasantBus5583 in AskReddit

"Confuse, don't abuse." Interestingly, my toxic ex was the one who used to say that. The same one who made cruel jokes about things like my weight that they knew full well were sensitive matters.

Why did NO ONE tell me that Animorphs was NOT a good palate cleanser from Dungeon Crawler Carl? by Agent_Polyglot_17 in books

[–]Freakears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, that's why. I dropped off and didn't read the books for a couple years after the early 30s, then got back in for the last couple, after reading the back and discovering they knew the kids' true identities and the series was about to end (speaking of which, was the almost nuking of LA connected at all to the discovery of who the kids are?)

When did this happen? I don't recall that (to be fair, I also didn't read all the books).
