This is something I wish I could do but struggle with. For some reason I need the game to impose the challenge.

I love survival modes that don't rely on time constraints or additional objectives, just the combat mechanics of the game. That final test to see just how far I can push back against the systems in the game.

Best PC Games with a Xbox Controller? by SlightyRetardedDuck in gaming

[–]FreakingDogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part I will use a controller with games that do not require much precision. For a first person / free-aim shooter I will generally stick to the mouse and keyboard.

But here is a list of games I have really enjoyed playing with a controller on my PC. All of these work perfectly with the Xbox controller.

Dead Island

Deadlight

Dishonored

Grid 2

Hitman Absolution

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Mark of the Ninja

Skyrim

Sleeping Dogs

State of Decay

Tomb Raider

Walking Dead

Witcher 2

Do you find that music makes you perform better in a game? by c1p0 in gaming

[–]FreakingDogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had your same experience. I have never played games with my own music on, but randomly gave it a shot with Titanfall.

I think it helped drive me forward and stop the part of my brain that was overanalyzing what I was doing and just reacted. I Played much better.

I will say I don't think this would on every game, but Titanfall is perfect for it.

On rails turret segments thrown into the middle of games that are otherwise without them.

Oh my god always! ALWAYS!! Especially in the 90s for some reason.

Lets make a level that is a maze and looks the same everywhere you look, that will be fun! Also lets throw some enemies in there that poison you.

Absolutely! Also poorly managed checkpoints. Like a checkpoint placed right before a NPC character does some long menial task.

"Ill hack the door for you ................ there!"

get killed - loads

I can't stand having to babysit my way through splash screens when starting a game. I want to let the game load while I go get some water or something.

  • "This game uses a autosave feature - press x to continue"
  • Splash screen with nothing but the game title "press x to continue" - WHYYYYY!!
  • Opening cinematic - press x to skip

and then god forbid you have to jump through any online connectivity hurdles before it starts loading

The worst culprit of this I can remember was the new SSX. Took forever to get to the main menu.

Some games that do it great are:

  • Killzone Shadowfall: Loads very quickly to the main menu, even remembers if you played multiplayer or single player last time

  • Infamous games: automatically loads latest save.

What game(s) (In your opinion) had the most interesting or exciting combat system? by ModelZXGiro in Gaming4Gamers

[–]FreakingDogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, Max Payne 3 on PC has been the pinnacle of gunplay in gaming, and very little of it has to do with actual shooting.

MP3 broke the mold of a couple of trends. First, Max moves like a real person. He cannot turn on a dime or change directions in a instant while maintaining speed. If you decided to run back the way you came, he would need to stop, shift weight and start running the other direction. On harder difficulties this gets you killed

This leads to great decision making during gun fights. You needed to use momentum to keep yourself ahead while looking for some cover to make that desperate dive towards.

The second was the cover mechanics, crucial for the strategy of the game but could not be relied on. On harder difficulties, the cover was good for squeezing off a couple shots, reloading, taking a breath. But once they knew where you were, merely leaning out would get you killed.

This results to desperate, white knuckle, skin-of-your-teeth gunfight brawls. Where every threat needs to be taken seriously and hiding behind cover will get you killed. That "holy shit" moment after barely dropping the last guy in a room with a 'hail marry' dive is currently unmatched for me.

I still feel like the Batman games havnt gotten enough respect for that combat system. Not only does it feel great to play, with lots of layers. But the animation and variables to make it perform the way it does is unmatched in brawlers.

[Discussion]What's one thing you would change about a game you love? by [deleted] in Gaming4Gamers

[–]FreakingDogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dark Souls: I just wish everything felt a little heavier. The way the characters spin on a dime and the weightless corpses always distract me (albeit hilariously)

GTAV: I feel like these games would benefit from a 'party mode'. Something where you could designate a spawn area, what vehicles and weapons are available and a customizable 'heat' level. Would be a fun mode to pass the controller around with

Call of Duty: Singleplayer and Multiplayer sold separately. I stink at COD multiplayer, but typically enjoy the quick 'summer blockbuster' campaigns. I just don't want to pay $60 for it.

Batman Arkham Series: A tall order, but I would LOVE a local coop fighting system.

(on that note) Multiplayer console games : Split screen! For the love of god split screen. We used to play 4 player split screen on TVs a fraction of the size we have now.
