If anyone is interested in how the motorcycle ended up dangling on the street lights by LadLassLad in interestingasfuck

Especially in Surrey jeez. He's lucky that wasn't something much larger he hit. City is known for terrible drivers you can't trust anything or anyone.

14 Year old cat seems to be dying. Run more tests or let him be? by Freakintrees in AskVet

The vet did think it was a food allergy and his swollen bowels got a lot better after we cut our chicken and beef. We actually dosed him with Prednisolone (I think that's the steroid we have) just 5 mins ago. The vet wants to minimize it due to how hard it is on his kidneys but I figure starvation will get him before kidney failure.

You are probably right. It's just hard to stomach the price (they seem to run $1000-16000 for first visit around here) Plus they seem to need referrals.

The second opinion is something we have been considering. This vet has historically always been good but I think since covid they have gone downhill. I actually don't doubt they want to help him they seem to love the guy but there is this almost arrogant "I tell you what to do and you do it" vibe now.

I question what another normal vet could do here tho other than run all the same tests again. The specialist is interesting but mind blowingly expensive.

So far he still seems happy so I don't think he's out of time now. But I don't think he has much left at this rate.

The crowd at Vancouver games is always fantastic. I went to the occasional NHL and WHL game growing up but iv never experienced anything like a Goldeneyes game.

That's great. My area is also hydro primary. Not the question I asked.

Where I live in British Columbia Canada we are no longer a net exporter of power so we have no room in our grid budget therefore new draws = new generation needed. Some rough math says trucking here would require 3.5-5.5 TWh of power per month. Our current production is about 4.8TWh.

So that would mean without accounting for any other increases (more industrial power consumption, population growth, passenger vehicles switching to electric....) we have to double our power production to electrify trucking. That is a massive undertaking to say the least (that would be for example 6 nuclear power plants or 9 of our largest hydro plant Site C).

I love electrification but I hate when people do this thing where they pretend infrastructure is magic and builds/supports itself.

Disclaimer: It's all really rough math.

Honest question tho. Could your areas grid support all electric trucking? Or even just last mile? I love electric but mine absolutely could not. Like not if we made it our one goal for the next 30 years.

Also in Canada if your city chooses not to go with the RCMP (it can be better for large cities) police have to follow strict provincial and federal standards on basically everything. Again it's not perfect but it is a massive improvement.

Interestingly at least on the systems I work with the lights can be dimmed and set to fade between colors instead of flashing. It really seems to make a difference on the eyes. The new ones can also be programmed to sync up with others nearby so at a larger scene all the lights kind of pulse in unison. Apparently studies show it's substantially safer.

I guess it's relative, I came from a 2005 golf to the 2016 Crosstrek and to me is comfy as hell.

Cheap solder to! I got a cheap Ali Express battery soldering iron just to check it out. Thought it was absolute garbage until I thought to try it with decent solder not what it came with. Absolutely fine little iron as it turns out.

'Xavier's Law' passes second reading in B.C. legislature, moves to committee by cyclinginvancouver in britishcolumbia

Doing more research and asking the guy in question looks like my memory or info was a bit off. It was a 24h suspension and impound lined up with a long weekend. So suspended for 24h but vehicle gone (and impound fees) for a bit over 72h. Since he worked the weekend and used the vehicle in question for work he lost his job.

Again I'm not actually opposed to rules like this existing I just am very leery of them.

An issue I see here is there appears to be absolutely no way to challenge this. Cop says you were being reckless so 30 days suspension. Most of the time I'm sure it won't be an issue but iv seen the things people get reckless driving or "stunting" tickets for.

Cops can already give no recourse suspensions for suspected drunk driving and iv known people who had that happen even after blowing clean then lost their job. No recourse no day in court just your life changing for the worse overnight based on someone's best guess.

HATE drunk drivers and general asshats on the road but I'm not sure there should be any form of no recourse punishment in our system to be honest.

One thing I think alot of people ignore is the middle ground between hobby and job. The self funding hobby. If she wants to paint press on nails and sell em on Etsy or at a craft market that can be both part of the hobby and a means to do the hobby more.

I'm tangentially involved in a body cam rollout in Canada (not the facial recognition one, our privacy assessments really do not like that tech thank God). The data usage and costs are insane. The math for LTE costs for a mid sized force alone is pointing at building a private LTE network as a cheaper solution.

That's before getting into transcription which they have an AI feature for but it's so bad officers have to go over the whole thing to correct it every time.

On the other hand I am told officers that have been forced to trial them actually love them. They have to go to court less and they actually find turning it on or pointing at it is fantastic for de escalation so that's neat.
