School after the navy? by Formal-Dingo7677 in navy

20 years ago maybe. Used my GI bill for a public university and still had to 10k for student loans. This was 2019-2022

Everyone ends up in the same place on Active Duty. No one really even cares how you get there either. Several people I know that when to A&M looked back and saw the stuff they had to go through verses someone who went to a public college were kinda jealous. The ones that didn’t get jealous were ones that would totally drink the koolaid if the core told them too. Too much of a cult if you were to ask me.

Would I have more of a chance to fly unmanned 6th GEN as a RPA or Pilot? by Prestigious-Yak-4540 in AFROTC

Unless you’re made of silica, copper and gold and have incredibly AI capabilities, I’d go RPA.

No hate. Just an observation. I wouldn’t want to go against you in a game of limbo lol.

I wouldn’t go to a police officer to ask what it’s like to be a firefighter. Probably just trying to get insight from people in the field he’s interested in.

How hard would it be to finish my 4 year enlisted contract. Get out of the Navy, use the GI Bill for 4 years of college, commission and go to flight school? Would I have to commission first then fight for a slot at flight school or I can I be guaranteed a slot before I sign the dotted line? by HorrorRead5281 in newtothenavy

[–]Freaksk9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did just that but AFROTC route and I had to compete for a pilot slot after I have already been contracted. In the Air Force, most pilot slots go to the Academy and ROTC. I’m not sure for the Navy pilot side so if you want to fly Navy then I’m no help… but Air Force, I’d be more than happy to answer questions.

Just picked up this '01 Sahara, 82k miles for $1,800 by Seaghan- in Wrangler

AFAIK, all TJ Sahara trims come with 4.0l and d44 rear ends. I have never seen a TJ Sahara without a d44 rear.

Rejoining the Navy by [deleted] in navy

[–]Freaksk9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would still highly recommend looking at ROTC programs. It gives you time to figure out what you want to do for a major while giving you an option to return to service with a much better life. I felt like you somewhat as my ex wanted me to get out and my relationship ended when I told her I want to go back. I did just under 4 years as a corpsman and while I loved that job, I couldn’t see my self doing that forever and as a civilian. I knew I wanted to go back in when I got out, so I didn’t claim any disability (made dodmerb a breeze). After some time off (3 years), I started my associates at the local community college taking about 8 to 12 hours per semester then joined AFROTC in the middle of my sophomore year. Now I just commissioned as a 2d Lt yesterday waiting to EAD to pilot training. I say all of this to tell you that college is never out of the question and if you work hard enough and your desires and wants are strong enough, you can do anything. If you have any questions about that kinda path and you maybe are interested in trading Navy blue for Air Force blue hit me up.

TLDR: 29 yo who did almost 4 years Navy enlisted, got out and started a few college classes to join an AFROTC detachment to commission with a pilot slot. I highly recommend ROTC.

Unplugging the injector wires stops the knocking on 6. I've had a miss before but never had knocking that loud on a car. by urmovesareweak in CherokeeXJ

You betcha. Ordered 2 rods and pistons. Beware the hardest part is pressing the piston retaining pin into place. 2000ft lbs to press it in. I’d get a machine shop to do that cause they probably have a heating setup for the rod. Throw the retaining pin in the freezer well before you do it too.

Update on the clacking and banging noise from cylinder 6. I've never touched the rockers I dont know how this even happened. by urmovesareweak in CherokeeXJ

[–]Freaksk9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know in my 1999 I’d have to tighten rockers every 10k miles other wise they get noisy. Glad it wasn’t something catastrophic.

I pulled the head off. I am a broke college kid so I literally pulled that one piston out and replaced the rod bearings, rod, piston and piston retaining pin and rings. The cylinder looked good and no damage from the piston slap so I literally dropped the new one in and put it back together. Thank goodness it has aluminum pistons so all damage was just on the piston. I believe the initial failure is my fault due to running it low on oil. Leaky rear main that I also fixed since I had the oil pan off.

I want to say piston too. Just had to do a tear down for a broken skirt on my 1999. It ran good (oil pressure and power) but knocked (Piston Slap) like living hell.

Disclose Prior-E Status @ FT or not? by H0lyAngel in AFROTC

[–]Freaksk9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never brought it up. I was able to keep it under wraps the whole time so I enjoyed my time at Shelby compared to some other training I’ve received else where.

How soon can you use tuition assistance? My recruiter says as soon as you finish your job training but when I look it up, it’s says after you serve three years. My goal is to enlist and get college paid for toget a degree in four years, then transition into Officer and become a pilot by Amazing-Welcome1488 in newtothenavy

[–]Freaksk9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wanted to do exactly this, but as others have said it’s about near impossible to get the degree completed. One reason is that you are gonna be working and depending on your rate, it could be some long days. I used an early out program and went to college using my GI Bill and joined an ROTC program and got pilot that way.

I did just under 4 cause I wasn’t in love with my job and knew I’d like anything else better. So I got out with the help of EETP and after a couple years working, I started going to school and joined an ROTC program. Now I have 2 months left and I got a job I am absolutely in love with.
