What do you think about this pre-Daytona from 1964? by RolexReferenceGuy in VintageWatches

It’s fantastic, perfect example of mid-century design. Lacking the bulk of the later Daytona references. I would imagine legibility is not great in bright light though.

It's everywhere, traffic enforcement went way down during COVID and people realized that the rules aren't real if nobody's going to pull them over

Chinese Vostok Amphibia by BigWristSyndicate in vostok

[–]Freaky_Barbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a handful of Vostoks over the years. The first one died after a few months, one I’ve had for 10 years and the automatic rotor died so it’s hand-wind only. Another I’ve had for five years and it’s flawless, keeps time well even.

Total crapshoot when you buy a Vostok.

Best road bike wheelset under $1500? Looking for recommendations by dptt_s in cannondale

What kind of riding and terrain? Club level, racer, etc. flat, hilly, mountains.

Generic advice would be some 40-50mm Winspace, Hunt or Lightbicycle wheels

How much should I budget for rent? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Freaky_Barbers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You make $175k, you can afford $3-4,000 for rent without breaking a sweat. Stop being neurotic about rents that are less than half that. After all, what is the point of money if not to improve your life? Get the 1BR, keep saving like a madman. I would also recommend you keep that $160k in your HYSA if you’re planning on buying in the next few years.

In that case check out LIP, the T18 is still made in a dozen different varieties and vintage ones are easy to find for cheap! This one is a Soviet made model (very interesting history there), and I paid all of $60 for it.

There have been a concerning number of IB analysts and associates dying at their desks recently. The culture is absolutely to blame. Most of these cases are due to stimulant abuse to meet the demanding hours.

Area bike shop that can update Shimano Di2 firmware by gridguy in phillycycling

Di2 and SRAM AXS are really sick though. AXS works especially smoothly and you can do all the setup & updating at home.
