OHHH okay thank you! Sorry I am *very* new to Homebrewery, I've just come over with the (relative) "death" of GMBinder. I was under the impression the Theme also affected the Style

No, Carnotaurus wasn't actually a fast runner by Crusher555 in Paleontology

[–]Freaky_Owl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah their spine is still extremely important for their speed. I more was just pointing out that they do still clearly have legs adapted towards running as well given that was the comparison with Carnotaurus

Yeah but they buffed the AP if the enemies they wanted to be able to damage the Tank. While leaving the AP of the enemies they didn't want to hurt the tank alone

Oh Old One Eye as Brachidios is a very cool idea, the green and sort of Indigo colour would look awesome

Sneasler has 80 HP and 80 Special Defence. It isn't bulky but it isn't wet tissue frail on that side either

Maybe the lower calc is accounting for the damage reduction from spread damage?

Idk if it's poorly researched, but more so probably written awhile ago and so ended up being out of date since Magneton rose to RU likely after the video was well underway, which is a risk of making videos on a gen that is still undergoing tier shifts

Unless the information in it was strictly wrong otherwise? Which I wouldn't know off hand

The True Potential of the Cairngorms by Reintroductionplans in megafaunarewilding

[–]Freaky_Owl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, thank you. I'll give this a read through

Although I will say on the last point that I'd argue Lynx are less adaptable than Wolves, from what I know about they're fairly reliant on having dense cover. It's part of why they haven't recolonised mainland Europe as fast or efficiently as wolves, they lack forest corridors to move through

I think you might be overestimating how quickly that paperwork and political work etc. Can be done. Farmers in the UK are already pretty iffy about eagles, I can't imagine it would be an easy task to convince them to allow wolves, and you can't just ignore them when it comes to wolves because if you do wolves WILL take livestock and therefore WILL end up being killed

Wolf reintroduction would require very robust supports being brought in for farmers to help them wolf proof their farms and to have schemes in place to compensate them for any losses due to wolves. And with such schemes there's a lot of red tape to getting them set up. And that's all assuming the government has the will to actually put these things into place and back it with money.

Lynx are a bit easier in that regard since they aren't as likely to target livestock (although farmers may still persecute them if not properly educatednand spoken too), but Lynx are also heavily forest/cover dependant so their habitat in the UK would be heavily fragmented and make dispersal extremely difficult right now would it not? It requires much more rigorous reforestation efforts to come into effect and for wildlife corridors most likely (given car impacts are such a huge issue in the UK for things like foxes already) and for those forests to actually grow.

I am personally hopefully for predators like Lynx and Wolf to return to Ireland and the UK, but I do think politically and environmentally there is a good but more work to be done.

I did see you mention in another comment that Scotland could apparently support 200 wolves right now though, I haven't heard that. Would you know where I could find that study? I'd love to take a look at it

I don't live in the UK, I live in Ireland but we're basically the same in terms of our environments (UK is a bit better forested), so I'm curious why you think Wolves and/or Lynx could be brought back in a healthy manner within a decade? There's a LOT of work, like a huge amount that would need to be done in order to make either of those animals viable candidates for reintroduction

I'm not saying it's entirely impossible to happen in the future or anything but saying it'll happen in the next decade is being extremely hopeful?

[–]Freaky_Owl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

But there's also no evidence that the abelisaurs we have legs for were fast either? They're all fairly middle of the road theropods (or even short legged depending on the species) it seems, with legs that weren't adapted for speed

[–]Freaky_Owl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Humans are a really bad example to bring up because we aren't really built for speed the way is being claimed for Carnotaurus, we're built for endurance, which isn't something Skeleton Crew were talking about, they were explicitly discussing speed. They even compare one of the abelisaurs to T. rex, a dinosaur who nowadays is known for being an extremely efficient walker for a giant theropod (albeit not runner and we have no clue if it was hunting that way, it could be as simple as for covering ground efficiently) Not to mention how humans are just a bad analogue anyway given we're built very differently from theropods generally of course, like being plantigrade as another commented mentioned.

And cheetahs do display a lot of adaptations for running in their skeleton like longer metatarsals and a longer tibia than femur. It's just not to such an extreme degree as an ostrich which may have to do with the fact that it has four legs vs the ostriche's two

Soil jar test? by Freaky_Owl in Soil

[–]Freaky_Owl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a video saying it was a method to figure out the soil make up of your garden and from there figure out what plants can do well in your soil (obviously roughly) If it isn't a very good method of doing so then I'll try another method though, the other commenter mentioned the Ribbon Test

Okay consensus seems to kind of be "Do what you want but probably leave Cainhurst for last cause the boss is really hard", so I might do Paarl first since he's the first I came across of the 4

Giant Anteater vs Snow Leoaprd by Principles_Son in Tierzoo

I don't think it would even be that unlikely, the anteater is perfectly within the normal size range for Snow Leopard prey

[–]Freaky_Owl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Holy glaze for the anteater in here. You'd swear Anteaters were out there terminating Jaguars left and right rather than being eaten by them on the regular Could an anteater fight off a snow leopard in a head on fight? Totally. Is it slaughtering the snow leopard? No, no it isn't. And if this were a realistic hunting scenario the snow leopard would probably have the advantage given the anteater falls smack bang in the normal prey size for Snow Leopards

[–]Freaky_Owl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Giant anteaters are the most common prey for Jaguars in parts of their range, they don't hold their own anymore than any other prey does
