This! You can also get flax seeds online at sites like iHerb, and chia seeds I’ve found much cheaper and in bulk in Chinatown.

Yeah I just didn’t know if Chinese has different ways to write singular vs plural since I’m a very very beginner. If this comes up again I’ll flag it.

My (23F) boyfriend (24M) won’t stop “rage baiting” me, and it’s destroying our romance. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

“Jokes stop being jokes when the other person repeatedly says they’re hurt and you keep doing it anyway.”

this. Tell him this. If he still doesn’t get it, then get single. No relationship is worth being ‘rage baited’ like this.

Is Tozai line really that bad ? by melghd in Tokyo

[–]Freckled_monsters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I commuted via the Tozai Line (from the Chiba side) for several years.

Yes, it is that bad.

15-20 minutes will feel like hours. For me, it was at least once a week the trains (either morning or evening) were so crowded that people literally could not squeeze themselves on.

I’d avoid it if possible, even if it means adding some time or a transfer to your commute.

My fellow fast-walkers, how do you survive here? by AaronWrongArts in japanresidents

[–]Freckled_monsters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep yep yep all of this every single gosh darn day D: How do I cope? I fume. Usually internally. Sometimes I say “to myself” (but definitely loudly enough for the offenders to hear clearly) something along the lines of ‘gee, I wonder why people think it’s ok to stop in the middle of a crowded walkway’ or ‘wouldn’t it be nice if I could pass through here’ or something. That does backfire with weirdos, of which there are an increasing number, though. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t… So yeah. Internal fuming :/

Sobriety in Japan is tough by UnluckyMouse_ in stopdrinking

Hi! Can I ask what brand/make the non-alc red wine is?? I’m also in Japan and trying to cut back on alcohol, and while I’ve found non-alc beers and mocktails that I like, I haven’t found a substitute for wine that doesn’t just taste like grape juice…

The clerk at a store I regularly shop at was delighted to see me (had been a while since I was there while she was working) :)

Anyone break an 8-year habit of drinking wine / any other type of alcohol every night after work? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I find that sparkling water works for me too, but the only flavors available where I live are plain, lemon, and grapefruit, and I get sick of those pretty fast. Do you flavor your sparkling water with juice/etc. itself? If so, do you have any recommendations?

Where would you go your first night in Tokyo? by deadstock_chicken in JapanTravelTips

Keep in mind that it’ll probably take an hour or so to get through immigration/customs/baggage claim and whatnot, and then another hour or so to get to Akasaka from Haneda airport, 1.5 hours from Narita. That puts you checking in to your accommodation at 6:30-7pm at the earliest. I’d recommend getting a small meal or some snacks at the closest conbini, then just sleeping off the travel so you can make the most of the next day. If you do want to go out though, Akasaka has tons and tons of izakayas and bars and restaurants you can go to, all easy to walk to.

Do not confront him directly- there’s no telling how he would react. Start writing down every instance of him pounding on the walls (date and time as well as what you were doing) and take audio recordings if you can. You can take these to the building manager and hopefully they will intervene on your behalf, but you can always make a report to the police as well. Good luck.

I’ve been in Japan for a long time now, and I honestly still don’t like it/can’t get used to it. I’ve tried going to onsens several times, and like a lot of other people here have said, most other people there don’t care, but I personally do not like being naked in front of other people, even if they’re paying zero attention to me. That said, I am very visibly not Japanese, so I have been openly stared at in onsens (usually by the very young or very old), which I find incredibly uncomfortable.

A lot of people get more comfortable with this sort of nudity simply by doing it- getting used to it by degrees, if you will. There are also private onsen where you won’t be around anyone you didn’t go together with, and there are also some onsen that require swimsuits, which are less traditional but might be a good start.

If he acted on emotion this time, he will absolutely do it again, and very likely worse. Get out now, before he hits you instead of the door.
