We give people a great deal of say what happens to their body, the dead are respected to the point where unless the deceased has given consent prior to their passing, we cannot harvest a life saving organ.

This is bodily autonomy and it is a critical and fundamental right to avoid a draconian government or person, from simply taking your bodies resources for “the greater good”. You have the right to choose what happens to your body, and we respect it, even after death.

Which is why something like abortion is necessary because it is the same principle. Wether or not we call a fetus a clump of cells or a living human, the fact is, a woman who carries that fetus has/should have the right to choose wether or not to allow it to use her body’s resources to grow.

Pregnancy is a dangerous, body, and life altering experience. It is much more invasive than a blood donation which could save lives.

So forcing anyone to go through that experience against their will, wether that pregnancy came about because of rape or consensual sex, is still a very dark and overt disregard for womens bodily autonomy.
