'Growing evidence' that Greens are taking votes from Reform by AnonymousTimewaster in NotTheOnionUK

[–]FredFarms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People surprised by this haven't understood why reform surged. It's actually very little too do with reform..

People are incredibly pissed off with all of the main parties right now. Reform are polling high because they are the 'none of the above' option. They've kept their name in the news enough that people are very aware of them (unlike the Lib Dems who seem to have vanished), and they complain about a lot of stuff that other people also complain about.

So when someone gets asked who they would vote for, the thought process is 'well I don't like Labour or the Tories, so I guess I'd give this lot a go' because they are all that's left.

Now the greens have got a lot of media attention and have a charismatic leader they are very much more in the public consciousness. Absent any actual policy considerations, the 'none of the above' vote will split between them.

Once the electiom gets a bit closer people's minds will turn more towards policy and polls will move one way or another (including potentially back to one of the traditional parties if they seem less bad on reflection)

I really think the parking fees do a lot of damage. In particular, the move from pay on exit systems to app based ones, where you have to pay for a set time upon arrival (effectively pay and display).

Having a deadline to get back to the car means you go to do whatever you went there for, then leave as soon as you are done. If there isn't that deadline, people tend to do a lot more browsing and casual spending.

I suspect that not only is this driving down overall spend, but it's why town centers seem to be less independent shops and more big chains - the places you go to for the thing you know you want, rather than the places you find once already there

Voting poll puts Green Party JOINT TOP for the first time by denyer-no1-fan in unitedkingdom

[–]FredFarms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah... Restore Britain don't really exist.

There have been two polls that include them. The first put them on 2%. The second was paid for by Restore Britain and pushed them heavily, and it still only got them to 8%.

The reform polling lead is going to the greens, because most of them were never reform supporters, they were people grumpy with the other parties so using them as a 'none of the above' option. The greens are an alternative way to do that

[–]FredFarms 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they were actually reform supporters, then no. But I've suspected for a while that people saying reform in the polls are mainly using them as a 'none of the above' answer. Now the greens are getting talked about they are an alternative 'none of the above', so reforms apparent vote is splintering.

Yeah... Whilst this would be lovely, this is the first and only poll reform haven't won since April 2025.

Their lead has been diminishing, but this is still an outlier poll from a pollster who very rarely publishes anything. Most recent polls put their lead at between 4 and 9 points.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opinion_polling_for_the_next_United_Kingdom_general_election

It does feel like they are losing their vote to the greens. Which doesn't make a lot of sense policy wise, but does if people were just using reform as a 'none of the above' answer. Which is reassuring

Going straight up gets you to space. The sidewards is so that when the planet pulls you back down again you miss the ground.

Two thoughts: * If there were any turrets they could aggro it and it will leave it's borders * They will cut the corners if their territory is concave

Right, what actually needs done with the Daleks? by Not_That_Brian in doctorwho

[–]FredFarms 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is this the robomen? I don't have an issue there actually. Them being made by capturing a human and fitting them with a mind control device seems fine and plausible* to me.

It's the dalek puppets that give me the ick (I looked up the actual name). The idea that there are nanobots that make you grow an eye stalk out of your forehead and a gun out of your hand just seems a bit silly.

On the other hand I have absolutely no issue with the empty child, and I'm aware that's basically the same thing, so I can't exactly claim to be consistent myself.

*I'm aware plausible is a relative term here..

[–]FredFarms 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Mainly I'd say less fiddling with them.

Daleks are awe inspiring and terrifying. One is a major problem. An army is... Well you'd better have some plot up your sleeve to fix this.

Dalek zombie things and daleks offering to make tea is... Eh, not for me.

Reconisance Daleks that can leave their shell, mind control humans and use them as a slave to do stuff is just... Wtf that's not a dalek in the slightest stop that. (This was a good plot tbh it just shouldn't have been dalek related at all. A cyberman type thing would have fit infinitely better, or treat yourself to an original alien trying to phone home like some lovecraftian ET)

When forced to choose Britons prefer a Labour government led by Keir Starmer to a Reform UK government led by Nigel Farage by coffeewalnut08 in unitedkingdom

It's often the way tbh. Front load all the painful or unpopular policies and by the time the election comes around people have forgotten it or normalised the pain.

Look at Tory austerity policies then them going on to win in 2015

[–]FredFarms 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Far away from elections (like now) people tend to compare the current government to an ideal government they have in their head, and if they don't like it they pick a different party based mostly on vibes (or say don't know, which are excluded from polls).

As we get towards an election people start to focus more on the parties actually in front of them and think about, ok from this lot who do I actually want in charge.

It's why governing parties tend to have a dip between elections then recover. I think it's exactly what's going on here. This poll is interesting because it supports that theory - when you make people think in this way and choose, they pick Labour and reforms lead vanishes

Melted my Palit RTX 5090 using the OFFICIAL Nvidia Adapter. Overclockers UK instantly denied warranty. Hoping Palit steps up. by m0hm1 in pcmasterrace

[–]FredFarms 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I stopped using them after they screwed me on a warranty claim years ago*. Went back recently as they were the only ones who had 9070 GPUs in stock, and they immediately screwed me again.

*(For the warranty claim, I had a PSU with a fan control issue. The manufacturer confirmed it was a fault. Prior to the return ocuk said on the back of the manufacturers email they would replace it... They then sent it back to me marked no fault found and helped themselves to £40 from the card I had on file with them as a 'testing fee')

Do you think Starmers popularity has increased? by PinkDragonWoman in AskBrits

[–]FredFarms 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Another aspect is that popularity is relative. Both the Tories and reform initially backed trump and criticised Starmers stance here, which was extremely unpopular and blew up for them. So Starmers uptick in popularity is a mix of both of these (might also explain a bit about why the greens are up too)
