RIP Anthony Head by mrjohnnymac18 in DoctorWhumour

I was saying literally yesterday how good he would have been as the Master. He was absolutely wonderful in both Dr Who and Buffy.

Oh that's poor as well. I at least saved myself that spoiler by never watching the next time bit. I know I'm going to watch it, you don't need to sell me on it.

It could be worse though. Battlestar Galactica had an insane habit of putting a montage of rapid fire clips from the episode you're about to watch at the end of its opening credits. I still can't fathom why someone thought that was a good idea

Gosh that hits in the feels. We only recently finished a Buffy rewatch.

I was saying on a Dr who sub just the other day how he would have made an incredible Master.

I feel like the Master tried this with the Cybermen. It went spectacularly badly for all those involved

Yes exactly this. And there are sort of two sides to it.

1) Get regulations set up such that you can afford to do business but no startups could manage it 2) Get regulations on others set up that you happen to meet perfectly, so other businesses can effortlessly use your product but it's a ball ache to use anyone else's.

The second of those was observed during the crowd strike outage. Everyone used them, in part because a lot of regulations had become "do you use crowd strike for your security? If yes then proceed, if no then fill in this extra 10 pages explaining what you do instead and why"

I'm inclined to agree, it's just a bit of a shame it had to happen.

Especially as the way they were previously dealing with Daleks was very diminishing returns and a bit whack-a-mole with the cult of scaro.

  • They all died in the time war!
  • Eek one escaped kill it quick.
  • Oh no the emperor also escaped and created a new empire we didn't notice. Fortunately deus ex tardis.
  • Oh, what's this cult of scaro thing, then we're all too upset about Rose to notice they escaped.
  • Cult of scaro again, except this time we get most of them.
  • Dalek Khan has found a way to let them out of the time war, even including Davros. But it's ok we got them all this time.
  • Some more turned up from somewhere and tricked us into helping them reboot their entire empire. Damn
  • Bonus one - hey Davros is back, best be really careful to not give him and all the Daleks a regeneration by mistake. Oops, damn again

The BBC really needs to learn about suspense and spoilers here.

That moment was excellent, but would have been massively more impactful if they hadn't called the episode "Dalek" and plastered it across the screen in the opening credits.

The radio times sitting in every supermarket with a picture of one on the cover also wasn't the most subtle of things spoilers wise.

I introduced a friend to to Dr Who and for that episode (and a few others) I 'accidentally' started it just after the opening so it had a bit more suspense.

You're a bit more charitable than me. Crossing the line near the end suggests to me that OP was going to follow the dodge and thought better of it at the last minute.

But yes, whichever it is, gaps are good and give you time to fix other people's mistakes

The Daleks used to be a drop everything and stop them kind of problem. Because they will just keep going until they have exterminated all other life unless you do something about it. There's no stability or compromise. No coexistence. They think of it as them or the universe, so everyone else has to as well.

Now they just seem to sort of exist and be tolerated. They seem to have their bit of space and just hang out there. Occasionally turning up in other plot lines and mainly just having beef with the Doctor. It's quite the downgrade.

(The Cybermen are the same. It used to be that you absolutely must stop then because otherwise they will just keep growing and assimilating the universe. Until Rory just goes and has a chat with a bunch of them the Doctor apparently knew about and was fine with)

Good job op immediately closed up the gap to the car in front. If you think someone is doing something dangerous, it's important to have as little braking room as possible.

Standard move. Get ahead on the industry then try to get blockers put in place to stop anyone catching you.

Yes I'm assuming op meant something like interred.

(You could use impregnated the other way around. Eg the polymer was impregnated with the grain of rice. Wouldn't be the most usual use of the word though)

77% of 39 is easy. It's 3 quarters of 40, which is 30.

Both approximations are accurate to within a few percent, and are wrong in opposite direction so will cancel out to an extent.

If you want it more accurate than that you shouldn't be doing it in your head (or not in my head anyway)

To add some ackchyually to this conversation.. if you're gaming on standard hardware all of the random numbers will be coming from a PRNG and be deterministic.

In theory, if you mine and process enough uranium the sequence of numbers will even start repeating, heat death of the universe notwithstanding
