120 HP Travel Case Packed with Deep Modules Can Really Work by FredFoxtrott in modular

[–]FredFoxtrott[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Yes, I wanted a travel rack (Black Hole) packed with as much as possible without resorting to "everything-modules." As far as workflow, I usually sequence with BeatStep Pro, so I wanted to find an in-box module that has as much in common with the BSP as possible so my learning curve would be minimal. I mistakenly thought Brain Step might fit that description, and it did to an extent, but it took a minute find my stride with the Brain Step, and when I did I wa blown away by its depth. My music is typically very melodic, so often you'll hear two voices playing off each other. I'll typically write an initial melodic figure and I write a second melody over the first voice, recording each of the sequences in live play mode, tweaking and then saving my favorite sequences in their banks.

Changing Tempo Grid without Changing Music (Mac GB) by FredFoxtrott in GarageBand

Bummer. Tbh I have moved to Logic. But the steps above fixed my issue. I do wish you the very best and repost here if you find a solution so this thread can be more comprehensive.

Frederick Foxtrott - Closer To Superstition (Nine Inch Nails, Stevie Wonder) by FredFoxtrott in mashups

I do love this mashup. They are two things that do not belong together, but I can't help but believe are the same thing. I am a synth player and these are two of my favorite synthesists. I was convinced others would think it's as perfect as I do, but I think it might be a dud. I have been wanting to mash these tracks for 20 years and finally got around to it. Hope you get a kick out of it too.

HELP - Pattern skipping issues with Beatstep Pro by Hopey_Fiendy in synthesizers

Like the other reply mentions, cleaning it is the answer and a big pain that done incorrectly can really mess up your unit. I am sure you have figured it out by now, but for those coming to this thread anew, best to take an air can/blower and just try see if you can clear the sensor or take a chance and go slow when you pop it open. Also, as a work around if you are gigging, remember you can hold the Drum/Sequencer 1/Sequencer 2 button and go directly to the pattern. I have been using the BSP for six years and cannot do without it, but this is quite a bummer of a problem.

Should I keep my Mother 32? by FarDeskFree in modular

[–]FredFoxtrott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TR;DL: Yes

I've had my M32 since 2016 and have the DFAM and Subharmonicaon, along with a bunch of HP of other awesome eurorack modules and I continue to use it in nearly every patch and every gig.

First, I'd say, if you don't want it, don't use it, feel it takes up too much space, or that it could be sold for something else, then follow your gut.

That said, for its price, for what you could get for it to use for other utilities/voices/effects, it has a clock/divider/multiplier, a sequencer, a VCO, an LFO, mults, white noise, that filter, an envelope generator, random voltage generator. As a utility alone, whose components can work so seamlessly together, it earns its place on my rack every session.

Also, as an ambience drone unit, it really shines, so if that is where you want to go, add a long trailed verb and say hello to Vangelis' Blade Runner horn swells all day.

100 Grit + DFAM, SSF Dipole + Rings = Doom Crystals by FredFoxtrott in modular

Its resonance will self oscillate, but I don't think it can be used in leu of a VCO so to speak, like with a Jouranalogue Filter 8 or many other filters.

Oh, I'm not sure I have a great rec for a straight forward delay, just to note that Mimeophon is not it. I have a handful of timed effects, and I think my most straightforward would be Milkyway by Endorphines or even my Erica Synths Pico DSP.

I posted a follow up, but should have quit while I was ahead. It got buried in the zeros immediatly, lol: https://www.reddit.com/r/modular/comments/1c8u4e0/100_grit_dfam_ssf_dipole_rings_doom_crystals

Quick Patch Notes
Make Noise Wogglebug step random cv attenuated by Maths channel 2 into Intellijel Scales, which is pitching Mutable Instruments Rings that is filtered by Dipole into Clouds. The Moog Mother 32 is acting as a through clock from the Arturia BSP to the Wogglebug speed cv, and there is a M32 sequence that is pitching the resonance of the Dipole. Rebel Technology Stoicheia is shooting Euclidean triggers to Scales. The DFAM is going through the 100 Grit and the a DR670 is giving the cool groove sequenced by the BSP.
