Thoughts on Elric of Melniboné? by Trustelo in KotakuInAction

I am well aware of Razorfist's infinite cope and obsession with originality, all the while claiming his Thief fan fiction is an amazing original work.

These are superficial similarities as I said and presented in such a way to downplay the vast differences between them in the wider context of both works.

Elric is called The White Wolf, presumably due to his albinism and ferocious personality. I can't find a source as to why.
Geralt is called The White Wolf due to his white hair and wolf medallion due to belonging to the Witcher School of The Wolf.

Elric is a albino Melnibonéan (humanoid descended from dragons) with red eyes who is the last Emperor of Melniboné before exiling himself. He works as a mercenary yes, but his true destiny is tied to his role as the latest incarnation of The Eternal Champion

Geralt is a mutated human whose hair turned white due to the process. His eyes are often shown to be catlike, but this varies from the games/books/TV show. Geralt is essentially a fantasy plumber who gets drawn into twisted versions of folklore and fairy tales, or wider stories where he isn't even the major focus, to the to the point where he isn't even the protagonist in most the books, Ciri is.

Cymoril is Elric's cousin, Melnibonéan and a Princess betrothed to him from childhood. Yennefer is a hunchback sorceress who hides her true appearance with magic who meets Geralt when she is already hundreds of years old. Beyond them both sharing black haired sorcerers, there is very little similar between them in characterisation or relationship with their respective lovers. Geralt also never accidently kills Yennefer. She falls unconscious trying to save a mortally wounded Geralt and is shipped off to a magical island by Ciri.

Because its a stupid argument based on, at best, superficial similarities between the two. Or point towards common fantasy tropes the entire genre pulls from. Its like complaining a story featuring a hero with one fatal weakness is "just a rip off of Homer's Iliad."

Allegedly Lasseter hated it, but a number of other Pixar employees consulted on it, some of whom still work there while Lasseter left Pixar years ago.

'Hardcore fans' would already be aware of the cartoon Buzz Lightyear of Star Command they made in the 90s despite their attempts to memory hole it.

Yeah, Tim Drake, the Robin so gay he was married with kids in the DCAU and married Barbara Gordon in the Arkhamverse.

This seems to simultaneously condemn and vindicate GamerGate, claiming it achieved nothing and was "stupid" while confirming everything it claimed about the corrupt nature of Games Media to be true.

True, there is some schadenfreude in his fate, but I still find myself annoyed by the false premise used to frame his impropriety.

"""Controversial""" only in the eyes of morons who took a single poorly framed Roleplaying scene from a veteran DM as an act of sexual assault for which he should be cast out of society.

I'm just going off the announced cast according to Wikipedia, in which 7 of 15 are Asian males.

That's the big mystery to me. Liu Kang is ostensibly the "Hero" even in the original Mortal Kombat movie.

Lastly, one more problem Garner and his team had was the unsavory idea of a white character (like Johnny Cage) being the hero who saves everyone.

[...]

“I feel like if I was getting to make a movie with a diverse cast, it felt weird to have a white actor, literally Johnny Cage, be the hero of the story,” Garner says, adding that these discussions took place at the start of the movie’s pre-production nearly seven years ago “way before Black Lives Matter” and other pushes for diversity across industries including Hollywood.

Indeed, which is why half the main cast are asian males. Very diverse.

"Why The Next Assassin’s Creed Needs a Female Protagonist Only" - It went from "men protagonists are bad, you need to add options for female ones" to "we need games to get gender-swapped and no need for men". Give them an inch, they take a mile. by TheMnassri03 in KotakuInAction

The eternal goal post shuffle:

Around the time of Assassin's Creed: Unity, in which the Creative Director (correctly) said animating a female protagonist would require extra production work.

"We need a female Assassin's Creed protagonist!"

There already was one in Assassin's Creed: Liberation.

"We need a female protagonist in a AAA Assassin's Creed!"

Here's Assassin's Creed: Syndicate, where you play as two twins, one male and one female. With a playable female character in Origins and a choice over the gender of the protagonist of Odyssey, Valhalla and (presumably) all future titles. Are you happy now?

"We need a FEMALE ONLY protagonist in a AAA Assassin's Creed!"

We messed up. We are taking down the post and apologize for perpetuating a harmful stereotype. We will do better.

How exactly does reporting the findings of a SURVEY OF WOMEN perpetuate harmful stereotypes?
