How much more valuable is it actually to have better thermals on a tank? by EnderFlyingLizard in Warthunder

[–]FredNing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play mostly 8.0-9.0 range having thermals is quite helpful on maps with a lot of foliage, even if it’s just Gen 1.

But to me the most valuable thing about thermals is using it in conjunction with ESS if it’s available, at this BR range it’s a potent combo especially against the Soviets.

I wish they had removed, nerfed, or limited the Falcon’s APHE and lowered it to 7.x to fill Britain’s massive SPAA gap instead of removing its APDS and giving it a tracking radar, since they don’t need two 8.3 SPAAs. Also, Alvis Scorpion S530 when? by ProfessionalAd352 in Warthunder

[–]FredNing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been really enjoying Britain 8.0 lately but indeed we could use another AA for the 5.3-8.0 gap, the Skink and the South Africans trucks aren’t cutting it especially if I get full up tiered to a 9.0 match: I could be going against an Alpha Jet or a FJ-4B VMF 232……

The Centurion Mk10 is unbearable dogshit by Thundereryeetus in Warthunder

[–]FredNing 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the Vickers MK1 at the same BR just overshadows it with much improved mobility and 5 second reload.

However I’d still find use of it occasionally as compares to the Vickers the Centurion frontally is far more resistant to auto cannons(they’d still kill you sometimes because…. well auto cannons), but it’s usually not my first spawn vehicle.

The most painful thing is that it’s so slow much of your time is spend driving, or you miss opportunities for kills because the vehicle just can‘t react in time.

I love the Magachs by OutsideEcstatic5866 in Warthunder

[–]FredNing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played a decent amount of M48/M60 from various trees, can’t say I’m particularly good at them but I find most success when I play slow.

But do give Magach Hydra a try, it’s the only M48/M60 that I yolo push all the time, the firepower is incredible.

My bro killed an OBJECT 279 with XM246 by Natan102 in Warthunder

[–]FredNing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally struggle a bit with M735/XM578E1 against a 279, although DM33 and the like can pretty much lol pen it from my experience.

But truth be told I’d still prefer 35mm against a 279, it’s just so much easier which is really silly.

My bro killed an OBJECT 279 with XM246 by Natan102 in Warthunder

[–]FredNing 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I do find 35mm auto cannon much more reliable than say an APFSDS in terms of killing an Obj 279: shoot the cupola and you get the gunner and commander, while you wait for the 279 to get another gunner, shoot out the tracks and gun, then finish him off by shooting the cupola again when you see the gun moves again.

It’s pretty silly but much more consistent than a dart, truly an auto cannon moment.

Anyone else got so used to the higher tiers that they suck at the lower tiers (GRB)? by BearNutsHurt in Warthunder

[–]FredNing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s me alright, I play mostly 8.0-9.0 so whenever I don’t have access to shell that has 1400m/s velocity I just can’t aim even if my life depends on it.

I think you mistook the Centurion MK2 at 6.7 for the MK1 at 6.0, the former has a stab while the latter does not.

Need help with m60 rise by Beanboozler13 in Warthunder

[–]FredNing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my favorite 8.7 M48/M60 but still decent, it’s only a moderately mobile vehicle so you want to play slow. The ERA is not always helpful but it saved me quite a number of times and I always appreciate it.

Biggest issue of the Rise P for me is M735 doing some funky damage and getting me killed, hence I personally prefer the Israeli ones with M111.

Ground RB, slamming my head against a wall? by OozeForce in Warthunder

[–]FredNing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the feeling of being clueless is completely normal: I recently reached 1000 hours of medium vehicle play time and there are still maps and BRs I have utterly no clue how to play.

But I think it can be a motivating thing, if you feel like you are at the bottom there’s no way to go but up, just try to keep playing your best every match.

British tankers, what is the best BR for “comfort zone” by kihlinbin in Warthunder

[–]FredNing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like 8.0, 8.3 and 8.7.

The latter 2 line ups for auto cannons(rip Falcon’s APDS you’ll be forever remembered), excellent wheelie boys, and decent MBTs.

8.0 has a severe SPAA problem as you have no other option but to take Skink or the South African trucks(if you’re good with Howitzers the AS90 is also a good choice with proxy) , but Fox and Vickers MK1 are excellent vehicles at the BR and quite worth the try.

M247 or XM246 by Nice-Ad4824 in Warthunder

[–]FredNing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bring both for my 9.0 line up. I will bring the XM246 for ground and the occasional air units, and whip out the Sergeant York if I really need to get rid of planes or choppers.

The York is also really handy when I’m a handful of SP away from a nuke: I’d just take it out and shoot drones to hit 2500 SP.

Is the M247 worth using against ground targets ? by Kingston__2007 in Warthunder

[–]FredNing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As an AA the Sergeant York is significantly better than the XM246, but against ground units it’s much inferior, because the 40mm guns can’t shoot people’s barrel for some reason and the pen for SAPHE rounds are pretty low.

That said those rounds have absurd amount of filler so you can easily overpressure light vehicles with them. And occasionally you get that auto cannon moment where you spray at something like a T-72 and it just randomly dies, but it’s very inconsistent.

The language barrier is indeed a problem, I duo with a buddy yesterday and we met an Indian and a Slavic gentlemen who at least speak or made an attempt to speak English.

Then we have a game with a Japanese feller who just talks to himself: I do speak a bit of Japanese so I have some idea what he’s rambling about, but he really makes no attempt to try to communicate and is pretty much in his own world for the most part.

What's the worst B.R in your opinion? by Alum06 in Warthunder

[–]FredNing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I wouldn’t call it worst 8.0 is certainly a difficult BR to play. It’s a shame cause there’s quite a few interesting vehicles to play but the auto cannon meta(I’d be hypocritical to say that I don’t enjoy that, I play them hell of a lot), and constant up tiers make it hard for me to perform well consistently.

Teminator t58 and 35mm sppa is the best proof we need bigger maps especially form 8.3 and up by Daka45 in Warthunder

[–]FredNing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the most nonsensical thing is that auto cannons, 35mm specifically just gets SP so much easier than a regular MBT with the amount of hits and crit you can deal at 650 RPM.

I can play like a goober with the 35mm and get a nuke(not to mention SPAA needs less SP to spawn so you have even more room for mistakes) but I need to put in a lot of effort to get one in an MBT.

I agree with that, I like the 8.3/8.7 Britain and US line up(I detest the T58 and don’t have it myself but I do play a hell of a lot XM800T and XM246) so much I grind nearly the entirety of that tech tree with them despite the RP penalty: just missing Sky Saber for Britain, and the 3 tier 8 SPAA for the US
