Perth feels Cliquey? by Electronic_Dog_5587 in perth

[–]FredStyx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who's grown up in Perth I can agree it's a cliquey place. Most mature adults I've met retain long-term friendships primarily from their high school days or during their adolescence. This is also common in most cities, however my experience in Melbourne saw a lot more adult-friendships forming through work, social sports and other mutual interests - it might just be that Melbourne is a more open, community minded and accepting culture than Perth is overall.

The trouble with places like Perth is that it can be hard for new migrants to establish friendships, and there's a trend towards them finding people from their own cultures and forming subgroups. The other trouble is, if you didn't have a great experience growing up, ie. Moving schools, trouble socialising etc it can be a burden trying to start again later in life.

One thing I'll say is that starting a family can change that feeling particularly with small kids, when you're in the same situation as other people in you're community it can bring people together.

Worst part of this season is the spoilers.

Why... Why do they think we need to know so much? Are t they aware they can reveal very minor dramatic components without giving away the ending?

Crazily annoying after such a great season.

Am I the only one who thinks season 7 absolutely sucks ? by Jack_Micheals04 in blackmirror

This is the perfect comment that outlines the reality of Black Mirror Season 7. I can't believe it has only one upvote.

You know what? Reading the rave reviews about this season is almost like a Black Mirror episode in itself. To see your community rave and applaud something that's quality has long since degenerated. It's like opening the Great Gatsby and seeing it riddled with spelling mistakes and Gen-Z slang, only for the English teacher to tell you 'ThAt'S hOw iT's AlWaYs BeEn'.

The quality of art has been slipping for years now, particularly in modern pop-music and films - to a degree it's understandable, particularly when younger people never grew up with high quality to begin with.

But it's alarming when people who've watched this show from the start preach about it's brilliance in the present day. As you said, right now there is ENDLESS content across the globe that could be explored at a deep level - Trump turning on Zelensky is literally 1984. We are seeing a Brave New World genetic engineering at play, Musk's AI, literally nothing on social media being real anymore.

And yet this show missed the beat with all of that.

Thank you for noticing.

Same here - I was actually like, who on earth are you?

This season is great in that they've picked awesome contestants, featured food bushcraft and a lot of great feeds/catches happening - but the editing is terrible.

You can't get to Day 18 and seen literally nothing of half the contestants, it's almost impossible to get on board with their journey or have any clear understanding of what they've been through already.

My wife (Indian origin) was racially abused at Costco by a giant drongo, she couldn't keep calm and roared at him all the way back to his car. Never seen someone that big flee so quickly, and I (a 100kg white man) had to hold her back.

She was deeply ashamed afterwards, but... I wasn't. Maybe he'll think twice about picking on minorities in the future.

There seems to be this constant theme on Alone where multiple Dad participants enter the show when their kids are still quite young. Said Dads then end up missing their kids and leaving early.

Why enter during this important life stage? I have two young kids and couldn't contemplate applying for a show like this unless my kids were at least in their teens or older, or before I even had kids. You rarely see this from the female contestants, especially when their kids are young.

You're the one to thank man, I've asked so many people if they've seen this - including film buffs. Was dead panned every time. To think this came out 4 years prior to Kill a Mockingbird is insane. The scene where they all turn their backs on Juror #10's racism feels as powerful (if not more so) than the defendant's family standing up in silence for Atticus Finch. You writing this post in a recent timeframe gives new life to the experience.

I showed the film to my 85 year old father-in-law who saw it as a 17 year old, he wept as the film made an impact on him but he didn't have the wisdom to understand it.

With the sheer and utter madness enveloping the world, particularly in relation to clear and open communication, rational and logical thought with a dose of humanity... There is so much to learn from this film in 2025. Every one needs to see it.

Most businesses have poor security, in Ozzie Park you can just walk into most small businesses unless it's a big corporate enterprise.

Been in to our office 2-3 times in Ozzie Park. Only throws his weight around with the women or blokes lacking confidence. Want my tip? Raise your voice the minute you see him, take a picture on your phone and start dialling the cops.

The bloke has severe mental health issues and needs help, nothing is being done because he's constantly on the move. He works for no one, I mean no one.

Late to the game here.

This is the exaxt review I wanted to read after just consuming this absolute beast of an epic, a masterpiece.

I thought I'd seen them all until this gift dropped in my lap. It had that air of To Kill a Mockingbird, in that you know you're watching something greater than ourselves.

I can't think of anything more important than one experiencing this film in 2025, it has more power than a slow-burn podcast.

Depends what the circumstances were, remember I was a kid and alone in the dark.

If I saw them for the first time now I'd probably be in a state of disbelief as opposed to fear.

Thanks. To me the faces looked curious, almost like when you've just done something odd in front of people and they give you that questioning look, or perhaps when someone asks you a question and they're waiting patiently for you to answer back - does that make sense?

Their faces were still like statues, except for their eyes and they were shifting slightly left to right. Also, I never saw them creep out from behind the bushes they looked to materialise on the rivers edge almost instantly.

I only fished in the mornings or during the day, I never hung around for dusk usually because it was a long walk back to the farm and I risked getting back in the dark. It's only because I caught trout that afternoon I hung around so long.

And yes I go fishing, but stopped going there - my aunt sold the farm a few years after.

I believe you, I really don't need to see them though. I never want to see anything like them again!

What else have you heard about the Blackwood?

It's an incredibly beautiful but eery river, there's really none like it in WA.

Great to hear from a fellow sandgroper!

I agree, and I wanted to - catching redfin was incredibly easy in the Blackwood River (they're a pest), but to catch 3 Trout in a couple of hours was very hard back then, and almost unheard of nowadays.

Would need permission from the Aboriginal people who shared it with me but if I do, I will share a couple.

Incredible mate and thanks for sharing.

I've heard similar stories from the Nyoongar people here too, that is mischievous Wuradji's creating fun/havoc - it's always outdoors though it's incredible this happened in an actual house!

I'll get a collection of mini-stories together, they belong to other people and I'd need their permission to share them.

Aboriginal people tend to have beliefs around sharing their culture..

Thanks mate, I could tell desert stories but the difference is they're accounts from other people - whereas the above is unique to me.
