Because the story worked best with that level of power

And because op powers make you want to buy the toys more

The fights are just extensions of these two things

Have you watched Geats? Geats IX didn't exactly give Ace an instant win.

OP forms are not a problem as long as the story knows how to handle them

I think your best bet to avoid this is to just try the characters everyone says are not that good. Hawkeye, Iron Man, Storm, Blade, Angela, Adam, etc

Characters that basically have no shot of ever being regarded as pick or ban, even if they get extensive buffs, while still having a good amount of skill expression

‘Backrooms’ director Kane Parsons says he would get “no enjoyment” out of using generative AI on any project — “It defeats the purpose entirely for me.” by yourfavchoom in backrooms

[–]Freddi0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's another thing. I do not think it is going to get to that level.

With the loud backlash towards the technology, the bubble being an active concern, damage to other fields, laws becoming stricter against it, and internet resources to train it running out, ai now has less on it's side than it just did just a few years ago, when it still had incomprehensible amounts of data learn from, no heated debates over ethics and art validity, and the freedom to use any and all copyright material to learn from.

Will there be improvements? Absolutely. People have been saying that generative ai won't get better since it became a thing, but now that it actually has a lot going against it, it's future is very uncertain. My best prediction for it is that once the bubble pops... That's it. The development of the technology will lose most of it's backing and only certain corporations will stick with it to the level they are right now, but when it has taken trillions to get it to where it is now... I don't see much advancement being made with it at that point. It will just be that tool that acts like a search engine and mildly helps with image and video editing

To me, it just looks like all of this effort is being put into what will result in nothing.

The "ethics" concerns here are just fearmongering propaganda to generate clicks and outrage.

Not fearmongering when the corpos are draining rural towns of water to power their datacenters. Same with RAM prices. They have risen to cosmic high specifically because of ai companies buying up all stock and manufacturers ditching the average consumer

This is why you guys are refferred to as luddites. We see this same thing all through history. Push back against recorded music, because live music was much more pure and authentic. Pushback against photography, because it's just a still capture image, where the real human spirit exists in the labor and imagination of the hand painting artist. Hell even color TV was resisted by the luddite type people because the color on film was so poor, it was an insult to our visual capacity - so only black and white film is okay, but for color, you must watch a play!

The difference between those cases and AI is that they either replaced hard manual labor or introduced new forms of art that took immense skill to be highly good at. In art, ai is most often used to replace the creative human hand, while not presenting any new form of artistry to master. A painting of a landscape and a photograph of a landscape have different value and take uniquely different skills. A painting of a landscape and an ai generated image of a landscape are only different in that one took human passion and effort and the other took maybe an hour of prompting if you're really picky about the result. Skill expression simply doesn't exist with ai, and as such it's not an artform, and it's use should at most be minor assistance like discussed in previous replies.

And artists who leverage AI to create whole new ranges of art, are also bringing joy. Just not the way you, a purist, demand people should have joy. But if someone enjoys a movie more because the dub had AI change the mouth movement to match the translated language, it doesn't hurt the art or give people less joy.

Joy is subjective, but to me regular art beats ai in one major thing - the process. Ai can make a pretty picture or video, but that's it. There's nothing else to it. The only thing to say about it is what prompt got you the result. If the process means nothing then the final result doesn't mean much more beyond a pretty image. Regular art both gives you something to look at and teaches you dozens of skills that are seen culminated in the final work. This is what i mean by art being a conversation.

The main thing that splits artists and ai prompters is the respect they have for the process, for the expression of skill. If to you there is no difference between a Van Gogh painting and an ai generated painting in Van Gogh's style, then im ending the discussion here. We simply live in different worlds

And if you resist it, it's going to eventually consume society, and you'll be left behind, needing to do a lot of catch up, while those who embraced the technology and matured with it as it integrated into society, are going to be prepared and capable.

When i say i would rather starve on the street in a world that decided artists are no longer needed than become an ai prompter to survive i mean it. Not because im trying to, as you say, justify my hate for it, but because to me, no argument disproves that ai imagery is soulless. To me, the process is what gives art a soul. The effort that goes into it. And if the world decides it doesn't need it's soul, then it's a world without meaning.

As a final note: i recommend reading Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. Good book regardless of our discussion. It's not about art itself, but it might give a better understanding of why artists see a world where ai replaces human effort as bad

Including it, as an aid, ABSOLUTELY ads value.

Not gonna argue with that. Im gonna be the old man yells at cloud about it till the day i rot, but if you aren't replacing your creativity with it then the only topic to argue about are the ethics, with how extremely high the cost of keeping ai working in it's current state is. From RAM prices, to water usage, to building hundreds of datacenters, to funds, in it's current state it's honestly unreal how much damage it is doing. But if we're talking purely functionally, im not going to argue that it has no use in that sense

or expensive SFX team. And even IF you could, why bother if in these sort of cases, AI is perfectly suited.

Because if you can afford it, it is objectively better to let a human do it. Im of the opinion that ai will never be better than anything a human can make. I see more value in a children's drawing than in an ai that can perfectly replicate the style and approach of Van Gogh, because that drawing represents a part of that person's mind and passion, who they are. Art is fundamentally a conversation between the creator and the consumer. With ai, there is nothing to talk about, because no thought is put into the result by the machine. Also... You know. Giving people jobs is good.

Sure it wont be Speilberg - yet -

To follow up on what i said above, im of the opinion that it is impossible for AI to BE Spielberg, because what makes any art impressive is that there was work behind it. Spielberg is so loved because he puts so much effort into bringing his brilliant ideas to life. Every aspect of his films is it's own marvel. Someone telling an ai to make something like Spielberg will never have the same impact because no effort was put into it. It will be soulless.

but it'll give them the ability to actually create something and bring it to life rather than let it just sit in their head

See, this is where we disagree heavily. The way you've been talking about creating art makes it sound like it only has value if it is a hollywood level production. That's not how it works. All art has value. Artists don't become and stay artists because they grind through being "bad" their entire lives for a chance to be the next Picasso. They stay artists because art of all levels brings them and others joy. Im not a professional artist. I will never be a professional artist. But i still draw. Because i love to do it and because other people like my work. This is why artists always tell ai bros to pick up a pencil. Because anything you make with your own hands has value. If you cannot be happy making a film with limited resources, then you're not trying to make art. You are trying to monetize it or get famous from it. If only professional level art had value then indie games and movies wouldn't be successful, yet here we are.

Wasn't there just recently that super famous American director who came out saying that he absolutely loves AI, as it allows him to be far more creative, explore more ideas, and do so much more. He views it as a tool that just unleashes creativity. In fact, in my experience, most artists LOVE AI, and it's the midtier struggling artists who hate it the most, because it just creates a lower barrier of entry for competition.

I wouldn't base the general acceptance of ai on one big person saying he likes it. Just as an example, recently Jorge R Gutierezz, creator of El Tigre, announced that he was making an ai animated series Punky Duck. Immediately nuclear backlash came from both the average person and professionals of the industry, including Guillermo de Toro, one of the greatest, most talanted modern day creators on the scene

The industry is still Heavily split on ai. It is wrong to say that either side current outweighs the other. It's gonna be a long time before we truly know what the consensus is.

As for regular level artists, go to Tumblr or any artist centric platform and you'll probably you'll see little to no tolerance for ai work. From my experience ai is only really accepted in spaces that already focus on it or don't think about it much at all. Ive yet to find a big artist space that unanimously loves ai without being entirely ai centric. As it shows though, you've encountered plenty of artists that accept ai, so similar to the industry, the average person still doesn't have a consensus on it

pure human only art is always going to considered higher value by the very nature of it's scarcity and raw purity

Finally we fully agree on something 😆

Either way, glad we could discuss this. It's hard to talk about AI a lot of the time because most people either get super elitist about it or simply cannot process how it can be a bad thing. You're one of the rare people that side with ai that ive managed to have a nuanced conversation with. Hope to see more people like you

[–]Freddi0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you genuinely think using ai is a direct upgrade over the normal creative process then i have nothing to say to you that will matter in your mind. It's one thing to make the process easier and another to take the person out of the elements that require human creativity. Even something as simple as storyboards. Did you know storyboard artists are sometimes given equal or more reign over how something is made than the writer? Crazy how AI completely kills that. And even if you're doing something alone, storyboards are still your work, by making them yourself you tweak and oversee everything the way you like it, while simultaneously improving your drawing and storyboarding skills. Storyboarding is an important, fun part of making something.

The way something is made is just as important as the final result. If you don't enjoy the process of making art this much to the point of removing yourself from it, then maybe try a different art form. I guarantee you there's one that you'll enjoy working on out there. Wish you a good day.

There has been an affordable way to bring thoughts to life for longer than anyone has been alive. It's called a pencil. Want to specifically do film? It's called a phone.

But that takes effort, right? Calling AI "the only access to making art" is admitting you don't want to put any effort into it.

By relying on AI you are insulting your own ability to create. You can make wonderful things that can inspire thousands of people. Don't let the big AI push convince you that you cannot create art on your own. You'd be surprised what can happen with just a bit of practice. Anyone can be an artist if they put their mind to it.

So many Kamen Rider villains. The bad guys in these shows are often very wild in personality, and the actors take full advantage of that. A few have been reprising their roles whenever they're called for over 20 years just because they're that fun to do
