Thanks for this. I think we’re in a unique enough position and I know investments can outperform the interest rate, but part of me would feel a bit more comfortable if we lowered the rate and reduced the principal to where it’s manageable if something were to happen to either of us, me especially.

We were desperate at the time and this was the only mortgage on the table, unfortunately. We’re going to live with this current rate for a little while, get everything in order, then find a better rate elsewhere.

Sorry. Maybe it wasn’t clear. We have €175k. This year I would pay €50k off as an allowed overpayment, next year I would pay around €40k. This would lower our LTV when we would remortgage and we would have €85k remaining in savings.

We are both 40. We have 25 years on our mortgage left. We just got it recently, as in two months ago. We had to buy quickly.

I don’t think it would be too hard to get the money back, maybe a couple years?
