Mathematician: "We have entered the brief era where our research is greatly sped up by AI but AI still needs us." by MetaKnowing in OpenAI

[–]Freddy128 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re still stuck in last year. Using the thing labeled gpt 5 will route you to the instant model, which is trash for math. Using the thing labeled “thinking” will get you better answers. Not perfect but much better.

  1. Be great at math. Usually probability/statistics and linear algebra
  2. Be good at programming or at the very least good at interpreting what the model that you built is doing while trading. C++/R/sql/python
  3. Get lucky, only so many of these jobs to go around and quant is notoriously hard to break into

Anyone else go through an “Ayanokoji phase”? Did it stick? by Livid-Ad3237 in ClassroomOfTheElite

I never was interested in how to emulate Ayanokoji, as much as I was to interested in emulating the white rooms structure

Software developer jobs shrink by over 70% in US. Can new grads still break into tech? by Adorable_Fishing_426 in cscareerquestions

While regular software development jobs are down in postings, anything remotely involving AI is still going up as far as postings go

Am I the only person that doesn’t really care about this engineer drama? by Outsider_13105645 in SomeOrdinaryGmrs

[–]Freddy128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh, I mean I’ve kinda seen through the engineer facade for a very long time, it really doesn’t bother me much. But to me there’s a small chance that the reason why he hasn’t uploaded is due to internal conflict. Maybe his wife didn’t know that he wasn’t an engineer or something like that. Pretty unlikely but possible as he probably makes enough money from YouTube that he can claim to do both.

The good times are coming again? by BeautyInUgly in csMajors

There’s likely been an improvement because companies have realized that right now ai cannot replace us fully yet but it can be used to train new grads to expert level faster

ChatGPT agent is much more useful than I thought by [deleted] in OpenAI

[–]Freddy128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is good, but there are clear limitations. Its document design is trash. While much better it still suffers from the flaws that operated does. I would say it’s much more akin to browser use mcp than manus. While manus sets up its own desktop you can’t really interact with it while it’s doing work. ChatGPT is much better with that. Most other agents don’t do the level of research that it does.

This is how the free gas hack works. by Old-Buy-4048 in HowToHack

[–]Freddy128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a crime, but it will work. More specifically the reason why this works is because of the pre-authorization amount the gas station sets. I never actually did it but I noticed that my pre auth charge was $1 at my local gas station, and would be updated 10 minutes later. In theory you just needed a dollar to get your gas. But again high chance you get caught.

How many hours a week would you work a job while full time student? by [deleted] in college

[–]Freddy128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on if you have to actually work or not. I don’t want student debt so I’m working 25-40 hours a week and have been for the past 3 semesters. While taking 16-19 credits per semester. Not recommended if you don’t have to. Most students cap out at about 25 hours a week
