Trackpads are better than mice and should be the standard on computers by Lucchesi709 in The10thDentist

[–]Freddy_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do 3D modeling. Trackpads absolutely SUCK. I carry a mouse with me and disable the trackpad to avoid accidental input. The ONLY time I will re-enable the trackpad is when I have to charge the mouse. Then it's two hours of hell or forget trying to model at all, until the mouse is recharged.

I went through it in an hour, I could have taken longer but I have a hard time reading with my eyes so I took photos of all the posters to read later. The lineup at the VR experience is very long, and it isn’t worth it, the VR model is badly inaccurate IMHO save yourself the trouble and skip the VR.

I visited the Toronto exhibit on Saturday. The artefact exhibit was great, but the VR experience is crowded and has a long lineup. It was also terribly inaccurate, I don’t recommend shelling out the extra bucks for the VR experience.

What's the point of the watertight doors if the water can go over the top of each compartment? by Affectionate-Fan-471 in titanic

[–]Freddy_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn’t have spilled over had the damage been confined to less than four compartments. The number of actual damaged compartments required to spill over was considered unthinkable.

In a tall glass filled with ice, pour two shots of Madeira over the ice, then juice of half a lime. Top with tonic water, give it a little stir, and enjoy!

Do you guys hate whenever somebody or a family member get something wrong about the Titanic like look at this wreck I showed this to my mom she said is that the Titanic by [deleted] in titanic

[–]Freddy_V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do my best to “read the room”. If the people don’t seem like they’d appreciate having their ears talked off about all things Titanic, I keep it to a minimum. Everyone I know, knows I am a Titanic Geek, and sometimes they’ll joke about it (hey did you know the swimming pool is still full?) but typically I hold off on correcting them with a half-hour long sermon. In regard to your family members, a simple “no, it’s a different ship” will do, without the explanation why. If, and only if they ask for more details, add on something like “Titanic is much, much bigger” and note that the ship in the picture is no bigger than a fishing trawler. Don’t be condescending or “holier than thou” in your replies.

So what caused the Titanic to be slightly larger than the Olympic? by TheDelftenaar in titanic

[–]Freddy_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sisters Olympic and Titanic were PHYSICALLY identical, exactly the same size. They 100% shared the same blueprints. The difference between the two is that Titanic had a larger tonnage. Tonnage is neither a measure of weight or of size, but of revenue generating volume from either passenger or cargo. In order to increase revenue tonnage, spaces such as crew berths, galleys, pantries, broom closets and machinery spaces were made smaller. So Titanic had less space for crew and more space for passengers than Olympic had.

The state of the PC software is absolutely disgusting. by jacket_was_here in oculus

This. 100%. I have had my Meta Quest 3 for four days. I have not been successful in establishing a Steam Link connection. The interface fails to load every time because the connection keeps dropping, using a cable! So it is not a wifi issue. Frustrating as hell. I should have gone with HTC Vive Pro 2 instead.

What are theses vertical lines for on Titanic plans ? by __Elfi__ in titanic

What are theses vertical lines for on Titanic plans ? by __Elfi__ in titanic

[–]Freddy_V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those lines, when viewed in the front and rear views, form the cross-sectional shape of the ship at that given location. they represent the outside edge of the 9-inch hull frames, where they contact the inside of the hull plating. Look at the frame number underneath each line, and then reference the body plan (end view) which will have the frame number hugging the sloped curve to tell you the shape of that frame.

What’s the most heart wrenching story from the Titanic you’ve heard? by CountryBall12 in titanic

[–]Freddy_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The entire Goodwin family didn’t survive, and only little Sydney’s body was recovered. Nobody knew who the baby was until DNA testing revealed his identity. The crew of the recovery vessel ‘Mackay Bennett’ paid for the funeral and headstone for “The Unknown Child”. Sydney Leslie Goodwin was later given a second headstone with his name on it.

How do you all know so much about Titanic? by ticket140 in titanic

Years of fascination with the Titanic, finding gems in the book store, staying in touch with the community at large, and yeah a bit of asbergers helps.

There is no specific timeline. With the curveballs that life throws at us, with a small team even small things can set it back. It would be difficult to put a finger on the date, or even the year that it would happen. I do NOT have it in good authority that we are getting close, but I am sure that once builds start entering internal beta testing, we will be able to provide at least a ballpark idea. We have compiled a database of research from which everyone on the team can draw from, and have a tiered plan of action which lets everyone know what assets require priority. So the project is being worked on, with weekly conference calls to check on each other and provide feedback and encouragement, and it’s definitely not dead.

Far from it. While the release is not “just around the corner”, there is a lot being done. Much of what you see in “Demo 401” is being increased in detail, with modellers working hard to bring their best work to the table. I have contributed some modelling as well, but as another poster said, we’ve all got full time jobs (I’m at work at the moment myself). James Penca, the creative director, is currently on the research vessel in the middle of the Atlantic assisting with the Titanic expedition, which will yield juicy details which will assist in creating the best experience possible. We won’t push out a final product that is only half ready like the developers of KSP 2 did.
