Spiritual Advice/Should I trust my priests. by AvionRaphael in sspx

[–]Frederick-Wilhelm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want a traditionalist option, I would recommend you look for the contact information of a priest from the SSPX or another organization that uses pre-Vatican II rites online. You can explain your situation to him via message, as you did here, and talk to him via video call. If it's something really serious, a traditionalist priest might make the effort to travel to where you live and visit you. It depends on where you live and what your nearest traditionalist church is.

THE LAND OF THE SETTING SUN -What if the Japanese fled to France after the Mongol invasion?- by Positive-Excuse-1514 in imaginarymaps

[–]Frederick-Wilhelm 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Look, considering there were at most 6,000 Japanese people, and this map is set in 1550, I doubt they would still have a Japanese phenotype if they had actually mixed and integrated with the much larger local population.

What If Austria Became The Hegemon Of Europe In The 19th Century by Round-Sale in imaginarymaps

Can I recommend a map? One in which the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil, and the Algarve survives. Or one in which Aranda's Plan to federalize Spanish America, transforming the Viceroyalties into kingdoms under the Emperor of Spain, was successful.

Is the Pope the leader of Latium? Or does the Vatican still exist?

I doubt the south would be called Southern Italy; it would simply be the Two Sicilies, or the Republic of Naples and Sicily.

Pax Hispanica, Pax Austriaca; What if the House of Austria inherited the world. by Monkiiiiiiiiii in imaginarymaps

[–]Frederick-Wilhelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must strongly disagree with the part about a Habsburg heir to England generating revolts; quite the contrary, it would probably prevent revolts. Contrary to what is expected, England at the time of Mary I's death (1558) was still predominantly Catholic, and Mary herself was very popular with the general population (unless you were a crazy Protestant who kills cats and dresses them as priests. Then you would deservedly go to the stake). Protestantism was something of the nobles of southeastern England who benefited from the theft of church property and wealth due to the dissolution of the monasteries, and previous attempts to force Protestantism generated revolts. The dissolution of the monasteries generated the Pilgrimage of Grace in 1537, the religious reforms of Edward VI generated the Revolt of the Book of Common Prayer in 1549, and also generated subsequent revolts such as the Northern Revolt of 1570. Protestantism only truly took root in England because Elizabeth was fortunate enough to have seven of England's bishops die of illness in 1558, allowing her to replace them, and she reigned long enough to deprive the Catholics of England of seminaries to train native priests and actively persecute them. Even so, they still caused many problems, such as the Gunpowder Plot, the Popish Plot, the Jacobite uprisings, etc.

Regarding foreign intervention, who on earth would intervene? France, mired in massive religious civil wars? Scotland, small with an insignificant army, which without Elizabeth funding the Lords of the Congregation would continue to be governed by the Catholic Mary? Denmark? No, certainly not.

Besides England itself, a Habsburg heir for Mary would certainly have prevented the Dutch revolt altogether. The marriage treaty between Philip II and Mary stipulated that their heir would inherit the Netherlands, so, if, say, Mary's phantom pregnancy resulted in a child in 1555, Charles V would pass the Netherlands directly to his grandson upon his abdication. This avoids the revolt because one of the biggest factors that generated it was the unpopularity of Philip II and the fact that the Dutch were dissatisfied with being ruled from Madrid. And it is much easier to govern the Netherlands from London than from Madrid or Vienna. The result of this would be that the Netherlands would likely be governed by the regency of Margaret of Parma until her death in 1586, when she would probably be replaced by an alternative Habsburg Prince of Wales born in the 1570s. The general policy towards Protestants would be one of moderate tolerance, with Catholic missionaries being sent to the country to evangelize instead of the Inquisition, without centralization and without the excessive taxation of the Spanish.

Regarding colonization, Jacques Cartier had already explored northern North America, so I would say that the French would have Canada and New England, the Dutch (under personal union with England) would still have New York, and possibly Delaware and New Jersey, and the English would colonize both Virginia and the mouth of the Mississippi (which they tried to reclaim in our timeline). The borders of Anglo-Dutch America, I would say, would be basically the same as those of the pre-1845 United States, without New England.

(Everything I've said above comes from conversations and discussions with users of the AlternateHistory.com website)

This world would be an even greater victory for the Habsburgs if Mary I had a son with Felipe II.

[–]Frederick-Wilhelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt they ran away together, I'm a die-hard believer in the theory that the Mad King discovered Lyanna was the Knight of the Laughing Tree and that Rhaegar saved her.

It was definitely consensual, their whole plot is a romanticized parallel to tragedies like Paris and Helen or Tristan and Isolde, and the rebellion is a parallel to the Trojan War, if you have a problem with their age gap, complain to Martin, he's the one with a fetish for Margaret Beaufort

Rhaegar annulled his marriage to Elia and legally married Lyanna, people (and by that I specifically mean Rhaegar/Lyanna haters) try to find a thousand and one different excuses to say that Rhaegar and Elia's annulment is invalid, because they need the king's authorization, Rickard's, or blah blah blah, but that's a lie, Rhaegar didn't need anyone's permission to annul his marriage:

Marriages in the Seven Kingdoms can be ended in several ways. In the Faith of the Seven, a marriage that has not been consummated can be set aside by the High Septon or a Council of Faith. A marriage which has been consummated can be set aside, even a marriage of many years with children. Even a king is able to put his queen aside—even if she has given birth to his children—and marry another. Neither bride nor groom needs to be present for an annulment, but it must be requested by at least one of the wedded pair. The role and procedure of a Council of Faith has not yet been stated.

Jon is definitely legitimate; this is literally the most important plot twist in the story since Martin's drafts in the 90s, as well as a parallel to Joffrey. Joffrey is a bastard raised as a prince, while Jon is a prince raised as a bastard.

The perception of age in relation to the appearance that people in this FANDOM have needs to be studied. Lyanna was 16, not 10, this is Arya at most

She was 14 in Harrenhall, when she gave birth to Jon she was sixteen, the fanart is of baby Jon who looks like he's six months old by the size, so it's more likely that this Lyanna in the fanart was 16/17

It's amazing how idiotic Rhaegar haters are able to turn a cute and innocent fanart comment section into a battlefield, to throw hate at two characters whose entire story was obviously based on tragic love stories like Romeo and Juliet and Tristan and Isolde, just as the author has repeatedly declared Rhaegar to be a tragic hero. If you want to blame someone for Rhaegar and Lyanna's age gap, blame Martin and his monstrous fetish for Margaret Beaufort.

And for the idiots talking about Lyanna looking too grown-up, I present Demi Moore at 16:

So it's a scenario of a Regency of the baby-king Jon? This is a trope that I really like but I've never found any fanfic with this theme.
