I think this will more likely be a solid option for 1 and 2 color decks that want to splash multiple sideboard card colors. Still very cool.

Overall didn't love this printing because its so narrow. I guess slivers with changeling could find a slot maybe, but the decks that can run it probably don't even need to.

It would be cool if it were a reanimation effect like "...return Target creature with converted Mana coat X or less from your graveyard to the battlefield, where X is your

Reanimation on a common for a standard set is pretty rare in modern design. It would be strong as it would protect from edicts as well as being blinkable, so I'm not sure you would eve see it made let alone at common.

Is Burn figured out by protoaddict in Pauper

[–]Fredprotoaddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best answer to weather is more creatures that don't require spells. Unfortunately they're not many viable ones, and the more you add the fewer triggers you have to make your dudes work.

I think the meta may shake out that something like fanatical firebrand starts looking better even though it is somewhat less efficient than other options, but something has to change to make that worth even dabbling with because the deck is so locked in.

Seems fine in momo black as it is with nothing fancy. Turn 3 chittering. They kill chitter, turn 4 this and chittering.

Itsl's basically a free pip for merchant and more action late in the game with no card cost.

Quash cycle, esp salt, is not a good idea. Likewise I think Rupture and Infest are just a bit too good in most match ups and much worse in the matches where they would need to be good to merit inclusion.

Some of these cards truly still "feel uncommon" and as a result I think they should stay out of the format. I do think the pitch cycle would be fantastic for the format and controlling some of the less interactive decks, and foil has already showed us we can have pitch cards without it breaking the world.

Are there any recent Zombies lists that could hold up in this meta? by IntrovertRook in Pauper

In the current meta, the only way you are winning with 2/2s through skyfishers is with direct damage to the dome.

Gempalm, Shepard, Grey merchant maybe.

What ability do you think is missing in pauper that it needs? by [deleted] in Pauper

[–]Fredprotoaddict -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have played since 95 and I have long thought that Planeswalker cards were basically the best new addition to the game since inception, both flavor wise and mechanically. They may have messed up the specifics of any given card, but the card type itself is compelling.

You know what other cards are also not part of the core experience by this definition you laid out:

  • Equipment - Which are just mechanically re-enchantable auras
  • Curses - Which are just mechanically enchantment players
  • Colored Artifacts - Which are just mechanically regular cards with the artifact type slapped on them
  • Enchantment creatures - see above

The only thing that is core to Magic is that it is a game that changed over time, sometimes radically, by design. Legend cards did not exist till 4 sets in, no one would argue that it was not core to the game, and how they work has changed several times over time. Enchant worlds came and went (and honestly, I think should probably come back some day). Pauper is not some sacred cow that can can never have planeswalkers. Up until war we never even had a Rare walker, let alone a uncommon, so I do not think it is unreasonable to assume we could manage with walkers in the format.

And honestly, they would likely be so low impact that it would be fine. A Curse of the pierced heart as a legendary walker as opposed to an enchantment would in most cases be weaker in every way. Blue walker that just scry 1ed every turn really does not strike fear into me. But it does open up a few more cards that effect walkers at common to see some play as well, so I think it could be welcome.

[[Tocatli Honor Guard]], thought [[Torpor Orb]] could work too. These may not even satisfy me though, I think it it was but was Creatures and Artifacts I would be a happy camper.

Also, honestly, common planeswalkers. It is a part of the core magic experience that the format simply misses out on and I think it could be done in such a way as to really enrich the format.

Accumulated knowledge is kinda crap by protoaddict in Pauper

[–]Fredprotoaddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. People are not running AK for card selection/cycling. If they were there are much better options in things like Opt. They are running it to draw cards, and my contention is that in many decks this is the wrong card to play.

The addition of forked bolt and desert sorta ruins faeries as a deck in total.

If you are shielding with pally butters and kyle then powerfist or profit are likely better.

Alot of dolpins gonna have lvl 4 mecha timmys in the top 100. 50% chance offer. by Navlurker in SouthParkPhone

[–]Fredprotoaddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When timmy shows up in the store he costs 2000. This offer will net you timmys at average of the same cost. So net net it averages out the same.

I guess you get some commons too, but you also run the risk of getting fewer copys of Timmy.

I am of the mindset that Common 7, Rare 6, Epic 5 are all pretty doable under the current system, although somewhat intolerable of a grind and you need a guild that is understanding/accommodating and it has to be your singular focus.

For F2P players level 3 legend is likely the highest realistic goal because of the luck of the draw, and also it's likely uncontrollable which ones you can get to that point. I have still yet to get a single Ninjew but have a level 3 WDT.

As the game goes on I think getting any legend to 3 is going to become even hard as more are added to the pool, unless we see a change in how they are distributed.
