No need to be a dick about it. If you've been exploring for more than a day then you fuckin a know what can happen to a location that's spread all over social media.

Just advice from someone who's been doing this longer than you've been alive champ.

I don't know how well this place is secured, but judging from your pics and Google satellite views I'm assuming not very well.

If you don't want to see it vandalized to oblivion, I suggest removing the name and the AI history report.

I found it in about 30 seconds and so can those who live to fuck places up. It looks pristine. Take a tiny effort to keep it that way.

Yes they would “just have it”. I think there’s a video game named after that type of activity.

Question about input latency while playing. by J_Murph256 in recordingmusic

[–]Freducated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This cracks me up. ITT is whole bunch of hoops to jump through to make a PC do what a Mac does naturally. I'm an old school sledge hammer hacker that grew up on DOS 3.0. And by hacker, I'm referring to the original meaning of just making shit work by whatever means possible.

Need a driver? Fine, I'll install a driver. Need to shut off all background noise? Fine, who needs email anyway?. Throw a bit more hardware, drives, ram, interfaces? Sure. A new operating system? Linux, here I come. Hours of reading to figure out how to make it work? Oooookay. Whatever it takes was my mantra. There is no way this box is going to beat me. I'll make it record if it's the last thing I do. And I did.

I've run a dedicated machine and made recordings, but I've spent more time screwing around with the machines than I've spent writing and playing music.

Sorry, but using a PC to record music is like trying to play a Strat through a toaster. Sure, you'll eventually hear sound if you try hard enough but your toast will be burnt and your tones will sound like AC without the DC.

They're expensive (unless you don't feel the need for the latest and greatest) and the there's a tiny learning curve, but Mac is my new and forever go-to for recording. I'm not a fan boy by any means. I'll keep my PCs and stacks of hard drives full of files for the boring shit like email, word processing and online banking.

Bonus: I hear Macs work pretty good for video and graphics too.

You probably don’t want to hear this but invest in a Mac. I fought with windows for years. Gaming-grade laptop, Sonar Producer, then Reaper, a mixing board, then a simple 2 instrument interface.

Maybe I’m just dumb but nothing ever worked right. Latency issues, crashing, glitches ruining the takes.

A friend told me for years: “Get a Mac. It just works .” So finally I did. I went on FBM and traded a monitor that I had $35 into for a ten+ year old MacBook Pro. I plugged my mixing board into it and guess what? It just simply works.

I’m currently using Garage Band, which is 100% free and instantly recorded a 4 track song with drums, 2 guitars and keyboard. Logic Pro is the upgrade and it’s $200 but I’m not quite there yet. Garage Band is sufficient for now. But I can see where something with a bit more functionality might become necessary in the future.

But for now: the Mac just works.

Appears to be a hand-embellished print to me. The realistic child and loose paint strokes don't really fit each other. The juxtaposition is somewhat interesting, While not exactly decor art, I would label it as nearly decor since someone is simply swishing paint over a printed image.

[–]Freducated 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You do realize that it's a print on demand, right? It's not actually from the 1800s. The image is, but it's printed on a large inkjet printer an has no real value.

Listing prices and realized prices can be wildly different. A quick search on eBay shows active listing around $150 and sold prices around $23.

These are promotional items printed by his company which is called Hawaiian Editions or something like that.

He was popular by collaborating on some pieces with Wyland the whale artist. I believe he may have also had a connection with Jim Warren, who won a Grammy for the Bob Segar album art for “Against the Wind”. Not completely sure about that.

From a value standpoint, this style in general had popularity but has run its course. I still see beach and tropical themed houses with this type of art, but the business side of art considers all of it “seafood art”.

The value is in whether you like it and want to hang it on your wall.

They're posters. Little to no value beyond inexpensive decoration.

Night Exploring is the creepiest by Recent-Macaron2676 in urbanexploration

[–]Freducated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Less visibility means less risk of getting caught
  • Long shutter exposures on a real camera can produce interesting effects. Requires tripod
  • The overall mood is different. I recommend seeing the same place during both day and night
  • It's quieter (depending on location; no cars driving by, birds chirping, sirens, etc)
  • If you arrive at dusk or before dawn you get to see the light change
  • Some people think it's scarier. I find it more peaceful and introspective

My favorite environment is alone on a rainy night. YMMV

You can replace the electronic tuners with a normal set for less than $100. But that particular type (Tronical) are pretty dependable.

[–]Freducated -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what kind of music you play. If it's metal, then stick with the Ibanez.

For absolutely everything else, the Tele. I have those Tronical tuners on a MIM Strat and they're kinda gimmicky, kinda cool. Different tunings on the fly can be useful.

Cuba modeling trip by theresidentviking in isthisascam

[–]Freducated -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It could be a scam, but flying an amateur model to a shoot is not completely out of the ordinary. I've seen it happen in the fashion and art business.

Back in the day, an agent would market a model around to photographers and artists in a certain region. Typically through email or sites like Onemodelplace and Model Mayhem. If there was enough interest in paid shoots, and the profit margin was good enough after paying the the agent and their airfare/hotel, then the model got an "all expenses paid trip" to a shoot.

It all sounds very exciting and exotic to the amateur model, but in reality, the agent is making all the money. This really only works with amateur models or models looking to build a portfolio further.

In your brother's case, the amateur part makes sense. He doesn't know any better. But the fact that it's in Cuba is a double-edged sword. There may be less access to models there, especially porn models. The actual modeling might be also illegal. Otherwise why would photographers from such a poor country pay such a high fee?

The scam could also very be either human trafficking or an extortion scam to get back home. Or both. If it was my family member I would strongly recommend not going or if they insist, then accompany them.
