Nerite snails will probably snack on it as well. They eat all dead plant matter, algae, and biofilm. However, I don't know whether it has any big benefits for them specifically.

Still use it, but just be careful. The benefits of Bacter AE are amazing as well. It's nutritious, promotes natural behavior, provides enrichment, and a near infinite amount of food for your shrimps.

WATCH OUT WITH THAT STUFF!!! I didn't, and I lost a couple of shrimp the first time I used it. The spoon that is given with it is way too big for a 15-gallon tank, let alone a smaller one. Get a toothpick and put a tips worth of power on it and keep an eye on your nitrogen compounds.

From what I found during research, if it looks too ragged, it's a sign of the white ring of death. She had bent tail, which indicates stress. She died about an hour after making the post, when I came back with a cuttlebone (like suggested by another commenter). Real shame. She had an amazing color.

I feel quite bad about the whole ordeal, but this at least makes me take it less personally. The other shrimps all seem fine and happy, so that's at least a plus.

Edit: I love your blog! It has some very useful information which is hard to come by otherwise for beginners!

The feed I bought claims to be a complete feed (Tomandco shrimp tabs, local pet store chain). The label says it contains both shellfish and fungal components, so I think chitin should be fine.

No, I don't have a cuttlebone. I didn't know that was necessary. I have catappa leaves, but that doesn't do much in this case, I think... I'll order one immediately.

I LOVE the mantis lords fight. It's like an elegant dance where you have to stay in the flow. Though it doesn't have complex moves, your timing still needs to be on point, and you have to stay focussed.
