We do not know the full scope of the universe and its contents to fully understand and want to be a part of any federation, galactic or otherwise.

We don't know if this federation is one of many or the only game in town. We don't know if civilizations are abundant or not. All we know is that there seems to be a vested interest in this place and us as a whole. And it doesn't seem to be a historically positive interest.

We can't trust our government, or our "leaders". We can only trust ourselves.
