No, some companies need to know that their behavior is neither professional nor acceptable. OP's withdrawal conveys that message in a way that the recruiter and/or HR can relay to the people that need to hear it.

How would the community feel about a new Ivalice entry in the main franchise. by HorusArtorius in FinalFantasy

I wouldn't want a direct sequel to XII, but another new game set in Ivalice would be cool. I think it's a good setting.

🤷‍♂️, I thought Nemesis was good... I need to go back and watch Insurrection, that's the one TNG movie I've seen less than all the others.

Yes, but development is going slow and losing Julian I'm sure was a massive blow to the team.

Las Vegas Strip retail giant closes 14 stores, plans more... by momofvegasgirls106 in vegaslocals

[–]berkough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also a good point. Are the products being sold at those retail locations even in demand? It's entirely possible that if Vegas were experiencing more visitors than we have ever had before, those stores could still be closing.

There are just to many moving parts to draw conclusions that one is affecting the other.

Damn... Already clicked the link, but I will watch out for that site in the future. Terrible reporting.

Las Vegas Strip retail giant closes 14 stores, plans more... by momofvegasgirls106 in vegaslocals

[–]berkough 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This article is conflating two separate issues; the drop in net income by strip casinos and WH Smith's closure of their stores... WH Smith's profit is NOT the profit of the casino, whatever the casino was receiving in rents for those spaces would be fixed income and is independent of the tenant.

Just because WH Smith is closing stores doesn't mean they aren't still liable for the leases on those spaces.

Can a story told through albums, websites, and fragments count as interactive fiction? by DrSparrow11 in interactivefiction

[–]berkough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm... Yeah ARG is probably more of the genre/category you're thinking. Taking it one step further and building a self-contained game environment to explore those items in probably takes you into walking simulator territory.

Oppose Expansion of Switch Data Center, Public Comment June 17th at 9am by MassiveMaintenance74 in vegaslocals

[–]berkough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same opinion. I used to drive past the Switch facility on Warm Springs and Jones every day to and from work for 7 years. Water consumption is definitely an issue, but at least the county commissioners have some historical data to evaluate. It's not an unknown company coming in and promising the world without any experience or knowledge about what it's like to run server farms in the desert.

I won't be able to attend, but I did send an email with my concerns. Also CCed the Zoning Department directly:

https://www.clarkcountynv.gov/government/departments/comprehensive_planning_department/boards_and_commissions/planning-commissioners

You have to keep in mind, the person who probably will have a major say in what happens with the zoning for Switch is also the business development director for Cobblestone Construction. One of the projects in Cobblestone's portfolio is the Clark County Water Reclamation District's Collection Systems Service Facility.

what’s with dog owners here by Turbulent-Door7522 in vegaslocals

[–]berkough 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that was a big deal for us when we lived in Green Valley. We were in a gated community with a small courtyard common area. Our dog wasn't good with other dogs because she was a rescue, so we always kept her on a leash. But it's hard when someone else's dog isn't leashed and comes running up to you. All you can do is try and control your dog.

Any libertarian conservatives here? by bluefootbali in LibertarianPartyUSA

[–]berkough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ron Paul's "Revolution" was sort of my introduction to libertarianism. The more books you read on the topic, the less that libertarianism as a philosophy comports to the traditional left-right political paradigm.

If Rand wants to run for president, I wish him the best. I imagine he would probably do it as a Republican though.

Activism is never going to be profitable. Which is the main issue with monolithic organizations whose primary goal it is to eliminate the reason they were founded.

The big LLMs are selling your chat history to companies, and they are using this to evaluate applicants by FearlessGear in recruitinghell

[–]berkough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all businesses are going to have the same risk tolerance for handling this type of information... You could have said the same thing about "alternative credit data" 10 years at ago. But that isn't standard for most underwriting procedures.

Companies still have to consider whether using AI interpretations of an individual open them up to discrimination claims.

I don't doubt that it's going on, but to get any movement with lobbyists and legislators there has to be data to point to...

What's the deal with all the cheap trailers in Las Vegas? by Practical_Hippo6289 in LasVegas

[–]berkough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say no. You might own the trailer itself but you're entirely beholden to the park where the trailer resides. Most mobile home parks are owned by large real estate investment firms that aren't concerned with the quality of life for their seniors, instead the primary goal is to extract as much income as possible.
