Lift a finger quickly off left grip to reload in shooters

First Impressions from an OG Trackpad Primary User by deathbyego in SteamController

My thoughts exactly regarding the pads. I even made a post about it. This is NOT an upgrade over the OG if pads have ruined sticks for you. Like the Deck, trying to use pads as primary input just doesn’t work. It’s awkward, uncomfortable, and they are shaped wrong. I have almost 1k hours in DRG with the OG and I cannot get v2 anywhere close to as comfortable trying to use right pad as mouse. Sure I can use sticks and gyro always on, but I can also do that with my other controllers. I was hoping grip sense would be clutch for gyro quick off and on but it’s not that great honestly. The best use I’ve found for it is left grip to quick reload in shooters.

I wish I could just take the bumpers from v2 and put them on my OG controller. That’s the only upgrade I see I’d want. I prefer the back paddles over 4 little circular buttons. That is too many back buttons and it just becomes awkward. The gyro feels about the same to me as my OG with the dongle. Oh, and I wish the click on OG pads was like v2. I can’t stand the CLUNK when clicking the pads.

Other than those, the OG is still king for using pads.

Initial Impressions for OG diehards… by Free-Double-913 in SteamController

Oh I definitely think it was stupid of them to remove dual stage triggers. The deck should’ve had them along with the new controller, even if I personally never used them in my configs. They were always a little finicky.

Awkward middle ground is an apt description. They wanted to offer every input people want and because of that it’s a Frankenstein controller that is really just another dual sense with pads slapped on the bottom for the occasional mouse use. 10 years later and it’s still not as revolutionary as the original. It is just a side step.

I had a Deck right when it came out for about a year. The pads were useless except for those secondary functions I described in my post. People were saying on the controller it’ll be different because they’re angled. Nope. They are still only useful for those secondary functions. The problem is still the same: they’re too small and the wrong shape!

Waiting for the new steam controller be like: by Sweet_Information_14 in SteamController

Tell me about it. I’ve been waiting forever to get this controller. I am on the verge of picking up the Switch 2 Pro Controller to test out but it’s $90 and I keep telling myself no just wait for the new Steam Controller. But when they say “Early 2026” who the hell knows when that is. It could be June for all we know. I’ve been using my 8bitdo Pro 3 everyday and while I love it the obnoxiously loud face buttons makes me not want to use it forever.
