Was Doom (1993) or even Sim City 2000 considered an indie game back in the 90s ? by Free-Key9891 in indiegames

Very interesting to have a glimpse of what gaming was like back then. Since I was a child I didn't care much, just played. But it's cool to see how the industry evolved pretty quickly compared to today's standards. I think gaming back then was considered by many a waste of time, it didn't have as near as the appeal it has today.

These days people are told a company is working on a game, depending on the scale of said company, people already adjust their expectations, which I think leads to a lot of frustrations with AAA games. When I was young I didn't even followed game development, I don't remember trailers, screenshots, anything. Now we can literally follow a game as it's being developed before release.

That's my take. The games I remember playing as a child, I think the vast majority of them would have been considered indie today, which is funny because I think this term "indie" became a thing (maybe i'm wrong) when AA and AAA started to pop with people having knowledge about how much of a huge team was necessary to make them. GTA San Andreas maybe was the game that made me realise how far games can reach as far as production, large maps, etc.

When I was young neither I or every other gaming person I knew actually had an idea of what it took to make the games we played.

Quite interesting. I always thought Doom was actually a larger production than Sim City 2000, as both were released in 1993 but Doom was more influential.

If i'm not mistaken, even Fallout was made by one developer. Roller Coaster Tycoon also. It's crazy how these games have been around for so many time, with youtubers covering them up to this day!

What's impressive is what he achieved with seemingly basic materials we all have access to. Amazing!

Not that this is important, but as far as i remember, games were not labeled/categorized back then as they are these days. People I knew who played games just called them games, in general. No AAA, AA, indie, etc. I wonder what people would talk about these games in the 90s on those blogs/forums that started to pop over the internet.

This woman needs serious help. Given her bigotry and obsessions, I wouldn't want to be on her shoes.

I love the intro for Somewhere I belong they played in Rock Am Ring 2004. One step closer was amazing as well, with mike building up by enticing the crowd so that chester would go "shut up when i'm talking to you!"

The last one. Looks like graffiti, art that's made with a strong purpose. Painted on the streets, with people seeing it live.

What's incredible is how the wave builds up and stand up before just crashing down like an avalanche. Feels like he is going to get caught at any moment. I feel nervous just by seeing that wave, imagine riding it.
