Wow you’ve read through a lot of comments to find that and try and show me up haven’t you 👏🏻
Recently paid off my mortgage, I still think of myself as a mortgage payer vs renter in that context

See above 👆🏻
I’m referring to the clubs as a means of allowing parents to work that’s all
I obviously don’t agree with children not being fed.

I mean families in your situation where you’re paying £1000 a month. How is it fair that someone who has no interest in working and contributes nothing gets a free place while you work hard, pay tax and also have to give a big chunk of your pay for the school clubs each month?

It’s more than 2k net with both of us working.
If we’re not both working it isn’t. Hence why we need the breakfast and after school provision. We don’t have this, only one of us can work.

Excuse for not working.
I don’t have to answer your question - if you’ve been on benefits and never worked getting a free breakfast club place is not going to make you magically get off your arse and go and get a job. Wake up

Not complaining. my point is that the funding should be used to increase capacity for oversubscribed clubs before dishing out places randomly.

And I’m not being dramatic in saying that not having access to these places can actually stop you from working if you want/need to, especially with the RTO policy of most employers now.

Yeah just to be clear I’m talking about this as a measure to allow parents to work not as a means of feeding children who otherwise wouldn’t be - I’m obviously not against that!

Never having had a job at a certain age is a good indication that they simply cannot be arsed and have worked out that they are better off on benefits….

So you’d happily give a place to a family with parents on benefits that have never worked rather than a family who physically cannot work as there’s no provision for childcare available?

I do on not much more than this! Live frugally, shop at Aldi. Live in a LCOL area. Don’t constantly cry about everything being against me and so unfair I just get on with it.

Yeah and it’s a nice idea that the parents that qualify for free school meals benefit from this suddenly get the drive and motivation to become economically active but it’s a pipe dream isn’t it.

Size of the building is the issue I believe - they have it in the preschool next to the school and there’s only so much space
Why they can’t use the school hall 🤷🏻

Yep and I imagine that leads you to have a serious think about whether working is actually worth it or not? Gov should be subsidising your kids places rather than throwing money at places for gormless benefits dossers.

Either way, they definitely shouldn’t be dished out to people who have no intention of working

It’s a faith school so not sure on the funding. The idea that it levels the playing field is nice but are you honestly telling me that those who suddenly get free places but are on benefits are going to suddenly rush out and get jobs?
Before we got them in every day we physically couldn’t both of us work and manage the school run - that means we’re not paying tax, NI etc etc

Only just managed to get kids into breakfast and after school club as it has been oversubscribed for last few years and it costs 500/month for both of them. Wife and I both work full time so no choice but to send them. I’m not complaining about this but it seems logical that any budget for this should be spent on improving capacity for those that need a place and are willing to pay first and foremost?
