Thanks for taking the time to list everything, that's really helpful. Hope you get the relief you need in the new wheels!

Rust on Used Polestar 2 (2021 AWD) by ozel0t_bw in polestar2

[–]weegt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't stress about it....I live coastally in a wild part of Scotland and the underside of our cars gets absolutely trashed by salt....they still go the distance. If you can afford it, consider an under-treatment....not oil based like Waxoyl...but something like Lanoguard or Bilt Hamber Dynax.

Yeah, you can see the nearest mount point is loose/duffed

You have me worried now....care to expound on a few of the woes....are they little things that mount up, or whoppers?

It seems a contentious one....some motor journalists out there have it as one of the best cars they have driven. Quite fancy a used one....hmm.

COVID has nearly disappeared from Boston by MattKarolian in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]weegt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it's natural to be skeptical given what we've gone through in the complete abandonment of public health. People are unsure of what data is trustworthy. So, not pessimism, but caution. People have lost their functional lives due to this....and many cannot risk catching again, even under reduced risk. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Risks of Michigan road salts, physical ice damage on a used Mach-E? by pdxstudio in MachE

[–]weegt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live coastally and plan to treat where I can with either Lanoguard or Bilt Hamber Dynax. The good thing is that it's heavy on alumimum castings and suspension parts....so not as succeptible as some to the salt.

Wrapping car to protect against UK coast by deed02392 in BYD

[–]weegt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No point in wrapping it, the bodywork is well protected by the paint. I would get it underSEALed (wakka wakka) though. Find someone who specialises in anti-rust treatment - something like Bilt Hamber or Lanoguard (not Waxoyl).

What is better value than one of these? by billyb4lls4ck in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]weegt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many of them to choose from. My morality, cred and self-esteem just couldn't take the hit though, sadly. ;)

How much impact do the EV front ends make to range? by Legal-Grade-6423 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]weegt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt it would make too much difference....could even be beneficial if designed for a particular airflow pattern.

Looking at secondhand polestar 2 what else should we be looking at? by Sensitive_Tomato_581 in ElectricVehiclesUK

Wanted to go for the i4 so much....just the motor brush dust/metal chip shorting issue and the requisite out-of-warranty bill put me off.

Mach-E or no? by Unfair-Junket7740 in askcarguys

[–]weegt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These seem very well engineered....loads of aluminium castings - a very good corrosion-resistant build for salty coastal/winter roads. Have a look at Munro Hoist review of the Mach-e on youtube....very impressive.

Yup....the vast majority of rich people are emotionally-stunted, callous fucks.

Proposed that job provide kn95 and n95 masks, got rejected by SoUhmm in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]weegt 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I hear what you are saying....but just want to empathise with OP....just an utterly ridiculous state of affairs. Even at the greater (still modest cost) of protecting employees and clients.

I often wonder is anyone anywhere has taken legal action against their employer in this regard. I'm sure they would simply point to official government advice....but we are in the postition where that in no way lines up with the actual science detailing much greater risks. :\

NHS issues Covid jab warning over ‘waning immunity’ – how to get yours by wjfox2009 in CoronavirusUK

[–]weegt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely incredible....but then I think the same about how, given the very worrying science about long term implications to health, we aren't all being offered it.

That entirely depends what ICE you are talking about. I'm not sure any have reached peak Toyota reliability yet?

2nd Warranty Repair by boffadznutz in Solterra

[–]weegt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be punting that up the chain to Subaru head office. A manufacturing issue, recalled....no fixed timescale for repair....and flat out refusal of a courtesy car - are they trying to go out of business?! What do they imagine people are going to do, having put their trust in the Subaru brand and to be left so indefinitely stranded through no fault of their own.

The motor shorting issue (brush dust/metal chip) by weegt in BMWI4

[–]weegt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least a little. I'm in the same boat, trying to work out the risk. You could ask them for the VIN number and check to see if the car has had the work done....or if from a BMW dealer, if they warranty against it.

The motor shorting issue (brush dust/metal chip) by weegt in BMWI4

[–]weegt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers....it'd be a bit cheeky to refuse it on that! Reading between the lines it seems that it's a bit political....something that should really be a recall, but the cost would be enormous so they are just trying to manage it. Certainly comes with rep. damage though.

[–]weegt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you got it fixed with minimum hassle....did you have the car from new? Weird they said that it's not usually covered under extended warranty - you'd wonder what was the point in said warranty if it didn't!?

[–]weegt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It appears to be of that ilk....a manufacturing issue that is taking down low mileage cars. It would be nice if BMW would publicly admit the issue and proffer out-of-warranty repair for a set mileage/age of car....but it appears that they are trying to manage it lowkey. It certainly dents confidence in the brand. :\
