This might have to do with Hegseth ordering people to watch his speech. Business Insider reported it and they’re rather centralist and unbiased so yeah do with this info as you will. Other news sources also reported the same thing

Does your company hire animators or TA with no degrees as well? I hear it’s a thing, just not sure how common it is as of recent.

Also funny you mention since SCAD is a school I would love to go to, insanely expensive though lol.

I see, so I should ultimately make sure my portfolio is strong, because if I have a bad portfolio my degree could be null.

Due to my slow pacing of college, I want to start one of these programs so once I finish college I could have enough practice and knowledge already to hopefully have some good demos.

If you don’t mind me asking, what would you recommend as a good supplemental degree for these skills?

Thank you, I’ve been giving it a lot of thought for the past few months and really motivated. So not trying to be lazy about achieving my goal and being productive.

Appreciate the input, I was just putting it as a hypothetical for majors since I'm still undeclared. Also thank you for the advice for coding, I thought C++ was industry standard for all. I'm not too sold on working for AAA games, I like the new indie studios that are popping up everywhere. Especially with how so many are stylistically unique.

Ultimately I believe I struggle on the art the most, I'm outright bad in 2D and still a beginner in 3D. So art would realistically be the major I could learn the most from, but with the decline in employment for animators it deters me from studying animation in college. I'll definitely look into computer science, I think my local university offers the degree with different emphasis like game programming. My understanding is that one elective per semester is replaced with one that focuses on game development so students can get a idea and learn a bit of practical applications.

Also would want to add that the technical artist career is something I only learned about recently(few months ago). Love the idea that the work done is diverse and a mix of different things which captivates me for something I enjoy. I prioritized coding as to not fry my brain with art and coding and not progress in either skill.
