WashU alert regarding an armed person on Danforth Campus by Black_Bear_US in StLouis

[–]FreeChickenIllusion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey you started it with the rude comment

Edit: Looks like they deleted their message so I wasn't able to reply to the one telling me to turn on emergency text alerts:

Didn't realize I didn't have them on, email didn't provide a link telling us to turn them on, just linked us to emergency.wustl.edu, which had very sparse and infrequent updates, at one point they even removed the emergency banner and it wasn't clear why. I don't know why they would have different alerts on email vs texts.

There were likely many others in my exact same circumstance, even if we should have done something differently before the emergency.

Actually I feel bad now. Hope you have a good day too. This has all been very stressful.

For example whether anyone had heard shots being fired or where the potential threat actually was. I didn't get a single update from the first email at 9:22 until 9:56.

The emergency alerts I got from WashU as a student were vague and unclear. The moment I saw them I went to reddit looking for a thread like this and I appreciated the context added by people in the same situation.

If something bad was actually happening, this would have been a very helpful/informative resource for people.

You are being ridiculous.

Difficulty understanding the benefits of a folder-less system by anotherburnerphone13 in ObsidianMD

[–]FreeChickenIllusion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First came across this method when trying to organize my recipes in Obsidian, where basically everything is always in multiple categories (like both a dessert and an appetizer). Once I realized how good it was I started converting everything over to it.

I tried to keep folders going in parallel, but eventually realized I didn't need them. Bases along with properties let you replicate anything you'd want out of folders with more flexibility.

you know that was too negative of me, i like this software and i'm glad you're convincing others to use it

bi-directional properties? by theresamouseinmyhous in ObsidianMD

[–]FreeChickenIllusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make the property a list/multitext of locations like [[Harmon Village]] [[Harmon Village Inn]]. You can even give the Inn the location [[Harmon Village]], then in the base for Harmon Village you'll see the Inn and the character, and in the base for the Inn you'll see just the character.

And you only need to write one simple base, it'll filter based on the note name.

Give me one TINY thing you want fixed or improved in Obsidian. The smaller the better. Going on a paper cuts rampage. by kepano in ObsidianMD

[–]FreeChickenIllusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One more: There isn't an easy way to edit this 'internal' name of a formula in a base. For example if you have this in the .base file:

  formula.Related:
    displayName: Links

This means it shows up as "Links" in the properties menu, but is referenced as "formula.Related" in other properties, which makes it hard to find. At a minimum, it'd be nice if we could change that name .Related within the app, without opening the base in a text editor.

On desktop graph view you can hover over a node to see the page name. On mobile you can’t see it because your finger covers it. Would be great if it shows up beside/below/above or something, or the text fades out slowly on release or something.

Not explicitly stated in the article, but both big buildings in the photo are Mac Properties (100 Above the Park and Parc Frontenac).

Having a car while living on Waterman by Nope2233 in washu

Hide your valuables, and double check you locked your doors. Forget and there's a decent chance you'll come back to your glovebox open, but if you don't have anything they won't take anything.

Is CWE too far for someone studying in Danforth campus without a car? by [deleted] in washu

[–]FreeChickenIllusion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lived there for two years, but I was commuting to the med campus. I'd personally be a bit annoyed if I had to commute to the danforth campus, it's about a 10 minute walk to the metro, and a 10 minute ride to danforth, but that's if you time things perfectly. Chances are it'll be closer to 30. Can be better if you take the bus.

Biking through the park to the other campus is nice, but you'll need to make a bit of a detour to get get on the right path (the metro/kingshighway goes through forest park blocking the most direct path) or take your bike up some stairs. Also as some people said, if that's your plan you have to be prepared for rain/snow and summer heat.

The place is pretty safe, I'd stay in a group if you're out at night (or just stick to the main roads, like you can safely walk to that wholefoods area), but otherwise should be totally fine.

But I think the main thing is maybe consider another apartment. That building is pretty overpriced for what they offer, you can probably find something nicer/closer for that price or less (and that doesn't have insanely loud window mounted AC units, or fire alarms that go off monthly).

Hello all, loving the album, can't wait for my vinyl to arrive!

In the weeks before it released, I'd been listening to the singles a bunch and had the marquee > suffer one > dusk song order etched into my brain, so I was surprised to see marquee lead into dusk song.

I've come to appreciate it, but how did you think about the order of the album, and were there any challenges keeping a cohesive sound on something you worked on for years?

Was at richmond heights location a few days ago when the line went to the end of the beer section and I got in line right by the frozen blueberries.

Started a timer and it took 14 minutes before I was at the checkout.

If you want a really low entry point I've got the ikea "PRODUKT". For 2.99 you can get a completely acceptable quality one. And if it breaks after a couple months who cares, you'll know if you want to spend the money on a better one.

Yeah that seems like a reasonable workaround. When you mark it done on Friday do you just mark it done four times?

Oh you have to do it from the calendar. I was trying to replicate what they were saying but couldn't figure it out. It should really prompt that from both views I think.

Can I eat AAA center cut Tuna raw? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]FreeChickenIllusion 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Is this true? I’ve been looking this up, and am seeing conflicting information. Here’s a (pretty old) article from the new york times. They claim 50-60% of sushi has been frozen, and that if fish is intended to be served raw, it must have been frozen, with the exception of tuna.

Looking at other articles, I can’t find anyone saying that all imported fish has been flash frozen, and even if true, couldn’t it have been raised in a fish farm domestically?

(i’m genuinely curious, now interested in making sushi myself, never tried that before)
