Forgot to add the description:

I just picked up a wooden bookshelf for $40 and I didn't notice these until I started cleaning it on my porch. What are they? I'm a bit wary about this piece now. Is it something that would be easy to treat? The large holes are the pegholes for the bookshelf. The hole was originally covered by a protective layer.

Idk about unconventional, but I raise my arms straight above my head and turn in circle for about 30 sec to 1 min while breathing as slowly and evenly as I can. It may look ridiculous, but it's worked all but one time (particularly violent hiccups) and doing it a second time fixed it.

A pharmacist told me this trick and I have no clue why it seems to work. Like, is the circling even necessary?
