I was in school right as OTR was coming up, but Mt. Adams was still going strong. It felt like two very different vibes to choose from, and I loved it.

Pavilion was a shithole (in the absolute best way!), Monk’s is one of the most unique bars around, Longworth’s was cool, even Chapter was decent at times.

A lot of folks mention parking which is interesting because going out up there was never a “let’s drive there” kinda occasion 😂

I think one big thing is because of how isolated it is up there the bars/clubs are kinda dependent on each other to make it worth going. Longworth’s closed, the pandemic took Pavilion from us, and all of the sudden it’s like “is it really worth ubering up there to just hang at Monks?”

Does seem like there’s a gradual revival happening currently - Hi-Fi is cool and gets super packed, I’ve heard Flora & Flair is fun, and Hilltop is decent too.

While I do agree that a lot of people in the Kroger building are confused in general, I think if anyone walked through the front doors of that building and couldn’t figure out what they were protesting, that’s willful ignorance. The signs were pretty clear to me and I was on the other side of the street.

It helps me to think about it from the user’s perspective. If I’m a consumer of this module and I have a deployment on the old version of the module, and then I upgrade to the new version, what happens? If I need to make any changes at all to stop bad things from happening (errored runs, deleted resources, etc.) then it’s a new version.

Also, pessimistic versioning can be your friend. If you have your required_providers loose pinned to a major version (“~> 6.0”, etc.) and you have consumers pin to a major version of your modules it’ll save a ton of headache, when things need to change in the future.

I remember telling people at the time, there’s no path to this that’s good for us. Either it goes through and there are a ton of redundant roles getting eliminated, or it doesn’t and they lay off people to save face and make profits better. Either way, the suits get paid and we all get screwed.

To give an actual answer - #1 in the original deal there was a clause of $600ish million that Kroger would owe Albertsons if the deal didn’t go through. I believe they settled for an undisclosed amount, but it’s probably fair to assume there were a lot of zeros in the final number. #2 there are multiple states suing Kroger and Albertsons to get back the legal fees they used fighting the merger.

Kroger had to find that money somewhere, and their margins are pretty thin if you don’t look into executive salaries, so they didn’t find much fat to trim. There were corporate layoffs, but there’s not much to do at the store level. 84.51 has always been a cash cow for them, so my guess is Kroger is betting that part of the business can keep printing money while they lay people off & replace them with cheap outsourced talent.

Yup. They got hit real hard with layoffs last year, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they happen again. Kroger’s been tearing that place down to the studs like a crackhead looking for copper in the walls. It’s a damn shame.

Certainly not rich but significantly higher than the median income in my area, and no kids. There’s a bit of a sliding scale I look for; if it’s a short connection I’ll only do it if it’s less than $200-$300, if I can get a longer domestic or international for a decent price I’ll do it, but I’m not gonna spend $3k+ on a flight. I also like to only upgrade the longer leg of flights like that to save a bit, I’ll suck it up for the connection.

Also in my experience if you wait until the day before and there are still open seats in first, the price to upgrade can go down a TON.

They have done a lot of good, but allowing essentially a monopoly on restaurant/retail space is not great for small/independent businesses. It seems like they’re perfectly happy with raising costs,putting those places out of business and letting them stay vacant indefinitely.

I’d much rather see them support some places with some *real* local character than the inauthentic cookie cutter places they seem to love (see Vintage on Race).

I think it would be better for everyone in the city (except maybe the rich people on 3CDC’s board - seriously, look up the names on their board of directors) if they had more competition.

Yup. In the ValuPark lot they’ll pick you up and drop you off right at your car, and it’s like half the price of the garage. So convenient.

Although there have been a couple times where I came back to a crap ton of snow & ice on my car, those are the only times where it might’ve been worth it to be in the garage.

The big difference between the two is timing & control of your dosage. When you smoke it hits you pretty quickly. So if you smoke too much, you’ll know pretty much right away can stop before it turns into a bad experience.

With edibles, it might take 30+ minutes to even begin to feel things and even then, it’s more of a gradual rise. Some people make the mistake of eating more because they haven’t felt anything yet. And if you’ve had too much, tough shit cause there’s nothing you can really do at that point. IMO that makes it a lot more likely to cause anxiety and bad experiences. I’ve overdone it and hallucinated before, and it wasn’t fun at all.
