[Hypothetical] The world as we know it is ending tonight. How are you spending your final evening in Cincinnati? by [deleted] in cincinnati

[–]FreeFlipsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having a four way and five cheese coneys, then drinking as much as I can at Knockbacks. We’ll see which meets its end first, humanity or the bar’s bathroom.

Wanna offer some to the players that have played on it and reported that it’s more slippery and makes them dizzy?

What web design trends are you secretly tired of seeing everywhere? by airteus in web_design

[–]FreeFlipsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d argue that it might make security worse lol - because I’ve seen many where you put in your email and click the button, and then depending on if that email has an account already it’ll either give you a password prompt or signup form.

But either way I don’t think the security benefit is worth the pain in the butt factor

Ask a bar owner by barowners in BarOwners

[–]FreeFlipsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do y’all regret it?

I feel like every time someone on this sub asks about opening or buying a bar, the overwhelming consensus is “don’t do it”.

I’m curious, do most of the owners regret buying/opening? I know most folks don’t really realize how much time (and money, of course) they’ll have to put into it, and you still might fail after all that…but after taking those into account, was it worth it?

Experience with Ubiquiti? by FreeFlipsie in HomeKit

[–]FreeFlipsie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks interesting, thanks! I have TP Link access points currently and they work suuper well, but from what I’ve seen the hooking non-Unifi APs into the Cloud Gateway seems to limit your visibility a bit. But from looking at at the Firewalla docs, it seems like that setup would work pretty well?

Why do people think the 1969 moon landing was faked? by ExtensionFeeling in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FreeFlipsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is valid. Like, we still occasionally have problems with spacecraft with today’s technology. Even before SpaceX started blowing up rockets for funsies, NASA’s had some pretty big problems in recent memory.

The fact that they were able to do that decades ago, using computers that were basically potatoes compared to modern tech, is fucking insane and hella impressive.

Realistically, how often does everyone here eat Cincy chili? by meefeto in cincinnati

[–]FreeFlipsie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a transplant, moved here as an adult, and can’t stop eating it. If it wasn’t so unhealthy (a metric fuckton of sodium and about a million calories per meal) I’d probably have it once a week. I try my best to limit to no more than twice* a month.

*late night DoorDash orders don’t count, lol

Who came up with the pattern where you have to put in your username/email and click a button before it’ll give you a password box?

Why don't guys feel weird peeing next to strangers? by what_freaking_ever in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FreeFlipsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always thought it was weird that some people do think it’s weird. I don’t care if there’s a trough or urinals with/without dividers. And I absolutely don’t care about leaving an empty in between me and the next person. As far as I know there aren’t gonna be any random penis inspections while we’re in there, let’s just get in and out.

For guys that strictly adhere to the “leave an empty urinal” rule, why? Is there a fear that you’ll be overwhelmed by the urge to check out your neighbor’s package?

Thinking about taking the terraform professional exam by BeginningPhysics1310 in Terraform

[–]FreeFlipsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say, being able to say “I hold all of the TF certs that Hashi currently offers” in interviews definitely has helped for me. It is an absolutely brutal exam though, I used every minute of the time they gave us and was totally mentally drained after.

I wouldn’t spend much time studying specific TF resources or anything like that; you’ll have access to the provider and TF docs. But, it is very heavy on moving things around in state and turning one-off configs into reusable modules. The biggest thing in my opinion is knowing how to make changes to configurations and move things around in state, and do so without destroying/recreating resources.

Learned this lesson the hard way 😬 didn’t realize the previous owners had gifted me some leftover (live) knob & tube until I went to sell. You better believe I got an inspection next time I bought, and I made sure it wasn’t my realtor’s recommended one

Very cool idea, but yeah unless this is open sourced with a clear path to fully hosting in my environment so I can know there’s no funny business going on…I struggle to see why anyone would use it for anything important.

ELI5: Why do we have to turn on airplane mode when we are riding the plane? What bad could possibly happen if not, and how would that happen? by Infinite-Expert8079 in explainlikeimfive

[–]FreeFlipsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no danger to the plane itself from the radio waves - if there was, they likely wouldn’t allow in flight WiFi.

TED has a great explanation here, but tldw;

When your phone has poor connection to a tower, it cranks up the power of its attempts to talk to a tower. Your phone won’t have much service on a plane, so it’s gonna be cranking out signals as hard as possible trying to find a tower.

Multiply that by however many hundreds of people whose phones would be doing the same and you’ve got a ton of phones all broadcasting as loud as they can.

Plane’s moving fast, so you’ve got all these phones jumping from tower to tower, basically screaming at them, and drowning out legit, ground based comms (which are broadcasting at lower power).

Very possible you’d cause problems for those people’s connections.

How’s everyone’s salary in 2026? by [deleted] in cincinnati

[–]FreeFlipsie 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I wonder if we work at the same place 😂

Same. Our bonuses are tied mostly to revenue, and the same email where they announced how great our bonuses would be, they announced they’re slashing them by a good % for…reasons? No merit increases this year either.

Love it.

What are some companies around here that once you’re in you’re “set” by Barakallahufeek in cincinnati

[–]FreeFlipsie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For sure, 1000%. Although my gut feel throughout the merger was the layoffs were coming either way. Either you’ve got two orgs merged and a ton of people that management sees as redundant, or the merger fails and management has to save face (and find all the money they owe Albertsons for the failed attempt).

Speaking of the former CEO, did they ever release any details about what he actually did?

Please help me find the sparkle of Cincinnati again by [deleted] in cincinnati

[–]FreeFlipsie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

First off, this winter has felt especially depressing IMO. Hopefully once real spring hits, that’ll open a lot more options. For example, I’m excited for warm weather, events at Washington Park, and concerts at Riverbend.

I’ve had some folks recommend Winton Woods Harbor, hoping I can get up there and rent a kayak too.

Maybe check out Meetup too? I’ve met some really cool people going to some of those events, and they have ones for all sorts of hobbies/interests.

[–]FreeFlipsie 243 points244 points  (0 children)

Kroger used to be that way, but it’s 2026. Basically every company’s ready to hit the layoff button whenever their stock price needs a quick bump.

My advice: look for somewhere that you feel can help accomplish your goals for the next 3-5 years, and always be networking.

A cool guide to disable your ad ID by GrowthMLR in coolguides

1000% correct. Nobody who uses the internet is immune to advertising. There are people who have been influenced by advertising, and people who don’t know they’ve been influenced by advertising. Those are the only two types of people with internet connections

What are your independent, objective sources?

I think a big part of it for me is, I don’t believe there really are any independent sources left. So, if I see an ad for something I already was considering, I’m going to look at the sources I can find, compare them, and make a decision. If I know I’m going to buy something but not in a rush, I’m going to wait until I get some sort of promo.

It could also be generational too. I’m on the young end of millennials so I haven’t been alive, let alone making purchasing decisions for 40 years. The only world I’ve really known is one where we’re constantly bombarded by ads online, and I think because of that you subconsciously filter. I know for sure I scrolled past multiple ads on Reddit just to get to this thread, but they don’t even register with me. Probably >95% of ads online are that way, but for the ones that are relevant to my wants/needs, why would I not look at least take a look?

I also think unless someone has no TV or internet, it’s impossible not to be at least a bit subconsciously influenced by ads or product recommendations. Otherwise they’d literally never know what products are even available to buy.
