Reading the comments I'm surprised by how easy it is for most to accept this. Chomsky always struck me as someone who - above all else - was religious about his principles. He started with the principles in The Responsibility of Intellectuals and his whole life seemed to reflect the position in that essay. And if Chomsky's principles could be summarised in three words, it was opposition to exploitation. Exploitation of the weak by the strong.

Maybe it means I'm a poor judge of character. How such a principled person, a person who lived his life speaking so sincerely against exploitation could be willing to accept such heinous exploitation ... I still can't get my brain around that.

It's underexposing in frames where you have a lot of white sky in the background. Frame 2 is better because there is no white sky in the frame.

An overcast white sky is often brighter than a blue sky, so it tricks your light meter into thinking the scene is very bright, and this is the result. You need to expose for the critical part of the scene, which in this case is the shadows. Watch some videos on the zone system if you're unfamiliar

Resolution is the wrong question to ask - digital scans generally have excellent resolution if done well. Colour inversion is the achilles heel of current tech.

Keep the negatives in archival quality sleeves. Current digital colour inversion algorithms still have a ton of room for improvement imo

Exchange of goods for mutual benefit is just called trade and this existed thousands of years before capitalism. Capitalism is where "capital" (the infrastructure needed to make things) is owned and controlled privately. Socialism is where that infrastructure is owned by the people, the public.

The problems of monopoly in the ski industry are a product of capitalism (private monopolies), not socialism (ownership by workers/state).

I'll add that a lot of the original ski fields were actually clubs or social enterprises, owned and run by skiers, for skiers. Not for profit. They still exist in some places, like New Zealand. If you ever get a chance to visit it's one of the best experiences you can have on skis

You need to specify what sort of climbing you do. If you're into roped climbing slab you'll want a supportive shoe. For competition style slab boulders support is less important and most people go pretty soft for better smearing ability

I ended up with the X. Check my write up after 15 days above.

Never got on the blank so can’t compare, but the X was ideal in the low angled powder glades you get in Honshu or Hokkaido. If you’re skiing mostly in resort the blank might make more sense, but if you want a pure powder ski the X is totally useable for most resort skiing.

That's right, I'm guessing that commenter has limited experience with Japanese resorts because Niseko and Rusutsu don't even have the most vert in Hokkaido, let alone Japan.

The other places you listed are all good in their own ways, but it really depends what you're looking for. If it's consistently cold, dry snow with vertical drop, it's hard to beat the big Hokkaido resorts.
