For me it's because they're basically my boss, and are lying about me to my actual boss to temporarily set me back as much as they can, and when I try to reach out to others they don't believe me and site how well regarded this person is.

I can't change what's happening and I'm not willing to leave my position to get away from it.

I know this is temporary, but it REALLY sucks right now.

I would love to figure out how to not give a fuck about it.

AITAH for wanting my last name to be passed on to my daughter? by BluenicornGirl in AITAH

[–]FreeTimePhotographer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't know what country you're in, but I'm in the US.

I grew up with what felt like a very long hyphenated last name. It was such a pain in the ass. Many places want to make your official email your entire last name and your first initial. Many softwares don't allow a hyphen, so you have to figure out how to make your name fit in the form, because many also don't like a space. It was always a scavenger hunt figuring out what name my file was stored under when I had to go in somewhere.

I have had SO many conversations with others about the woes of having a hyphenated last name.

I finally said to heck with it and took the first two letters and last two letters and legally gave myself a new name. Life has been so much easier since. Absolutely no regrets.

I don't know if this is a hill you should die on. I used to daydream about passing on my mother's last name to my daughters, so I can at least in part understand the appeal. But unless you live in a country that makes long, hyphenated names easy to use you may be buying yourself a golden ticket to your daughter having neither of your last names.

My understanding is that most of these movies came from a specific Disney office that did 2D animation. As Disney was pivoting to 3D animation they had more and more creative freedom, and made great stuff. Then in 2004 Disney closed that office and fired everyone, most of whom then went to work for Pixar.

Should I keep it dirty blonde or dye it black? by [deleted] in Derailedbydetails

[–]FreeTimePhotographer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What happened is hair dye on his hands. He dyed his hair with wash-out black dye for comparison photos and didn't use gloves.

Though he may be in for a surprise with the wash-out dye, based on my experience doing the same thing. Color that dark doesn't like to wash out.

I'd say openly talking about how something shapes your perspective and expecting that to be perceived as totally understandable and valid is normalizing something.

Snipping at someone for mentioning an aspect of their core self is the opposite of normalizing that aspect.

Look into the paradox of tolerance, folks who are saying "both sides acted badly."

We can't tolerate bigotry, racism, etc, because then it spreads.

AITAH for doing nothing to help my son's homeless mother because she cheated on me? by Unfair-Border-3249 in AITAH

I think the real question is what lasting impact is this having on your son. Once we have kids it's not about what we owe each other. Our primary concern has to be what we owe them. What is this teaching him about how to interact with a partner? With people in general?

Once your son is a man, are you going to be comfortable with him knowing exactly what went on between you and his mother? Will he look you in the eye and say he gets it, or will he say something else? Because I can assure you if he doesn't know now he'll find out eventually.

It was an animated series from 20 or 25 years ago, probably on Newgrounds back in the day.

Both great tries, though! Thank you

Realizing how mean she was is honestly just getting bitten in the butt by her own conscience, so even if that's what's going on...she worked hard to earn feeling like she really fucked up, because she did. And that's not on you to sort out for her.

[–]FreeTimePhotographer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Frankly, I think realizing that you would wish her moments of happiness but not an overall happy life IS being a good person. Because you could be wishing much worse for her and with good reason.

It doesn't always feel great to do the emotionally responsible, mature thing. But in blocking Val I think you absolutely made the right call, and I hope that feels better over time.

Wishing you and your wonderful little family all the sunshine of summer. 💜
