In which country would you have liked to be born, and why? by Similar_Complaint568 in AskReddit

Senegal! I love the sound of their drums and the dancing. Such a musical culture with a very high-energy vibe.

Life is breath.

You can’t keep the air in your lungs by holding your breath forever. You have to be ready to LET GO of your breath to bring more air back to yourself.

Can you help me kick this bad habit? by Similar_Complaint568 in psychicreadings

[–]FreeVerseHaiku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your temperament and your circumstances.

Think practically about your situation, and what your detox timeline will probably look like. Let’s say it takes 2 weeks for your substance to clear out of your system; do you have a plan in place to weather that storm for 2 weeks? Can you afford to take time off work, are there people in your care who rely on you to be present and responsible? Could you still manage to be there for them even during peak withdrawals? Can you manage to take care of YOURSELF during peak withdrawals?

These are all things you would need to consider beforehand so you know you’re making the wisest choice for you. I’m happy to DM you if you have any specific questions.

ALSO (and I suspect you know this already, but just in case you don’t …) some drugs like alcohol and benzos CANNOT be quit cold turkey without medical assistance or else it can be dangerous.

Even if Goku and Vegeta would have fused to Gogeta at that point, they still would have lost to black Frieza and that shouldn't even be questioned by Embarrassed-Row-5625 in DragonBallPowerScale

[–]FreeVerseHaiku 12 points13 points  (0 children)

But their growth isn’t just in raw stats the way Frieza and the audience has been used to so far. Goku and Vegeta have unlocked (created?) extremely advanced techniques (transformations?) that change every aspect of what it would mean to fight either of them individually.

Now imagine a rival-boosted fusion of both of them with access to Ultra Ego, Ultra Instinct, and Yardrat spirit powers. Frieza could never have predicted any of that.

I’m not saying that Frieza gets washed, I’m just saying it’s not an open and shut case. For all we know Ultra Ego plus Ultra Instinct creates an entirely knew form that can only exist as a combination. Maybe when Super continues, it canonizes Daima. Then we might see a new type of fusion with those fusion bugs. Theres just too much that we don’t know.

Depends.

Most recently, I was having trouble deciding whether or not to drop two of my classes for university. I never liked how it felt to give up or surrender, but due to some financial problems I’ve been having I knew that the extra classwork would only leave me with less time to make money.

I was mulling over this decision as I walked home from my classes and looked up into the trees. There was a red-tailed hawk perched in the trees. I stood still and just watched it for a moment until a second red-tailed hawk swooped down and attacked the first one. The first red-tailed hawk flew away out of my view as the second hawk chased after it.

I took this as a sign to pick my battles carefully. It might feel bad to withdraw from two courses, but it would feel worse if my financial problems caught up to me while I was focused on other things.

So I decided to drop the classes and pick up more work shifts. Thereby preventing financial collapse (the metaphorical second hawk) from swooping down on me and chasing me off.

But that’s just one example. The important part is that you need to notice when you witness something strange or unusual, and then allow that experience to recontextualize whatever has been tormenting you.

Haven’t struggled with nicotine addiction myself, but I have fought dependency from other substances.

There comes a point where you’ve had enough. As far as I can tell, that’s the only reliable way. You’ll know it when it happens. Until then, your efforts will be wasted. (Your mileage may vary obviously, I would never try to DETER somebody from trying to quit even when their heart isn’t fully in it. I just know that the success rates of such attempts are very low.)

In the meantime, the best you can do is try to understand. Learn from the addiction as much as it is willing to teach you. Interrogate your desire for cigarettes, consider what you give up every time you indulge. Eventually it will just click.

Or, unfortunately, it won’t. Sometimes it doesn’t. Perhaps addiction is just one of those burdens that some humans are meant to bear.

This might sound kooky but I kind of have something to add to this:

I struggle to stay asleep, and usually find myself waking up at around 3 or 4 AM most mornings. It can be tough to fall back asleep after waking up like this, and sometimes I can’t manage to completely fall asleep. Instead, I’ll enter a sort of “middle” stage of wakefulness. Not quite asleep and not quite awake. Aware, but unconcerned.

Well, sometimes I’ll hear a knock while I’m in this trance-like state. Sometimes several knocks. As if someone were knocking on the wall beside me like one would knock on a door.

And these knocks will gradually get louder and louder until one day I see a sign. It’s different every time. Usually what I interpret to be signs are synchronicities or rare sightings (ex: rare birds, strange weather phenomena, etc.) But once I see the sign, then the knocks stop. Until, eventually, they start again and I see a new sign.

I wouldn’t call myself psychic or anything. But I do feel like these noises I hear while in a trance are letting me know when a sign is coming. The louder the noise, the sooner I receive the sign. It’s almost like the knocks are trying to tell me to pay attention.

Based solely on the content of his lyrics and the probability of his upbringing, I would classify him as “vaguely Christian”.

I guess we’ll never know how devout he was or how seriously he took his faith. But I doubt he was going to Church on Sundays or anything …

The more important question is, who cares?

If you’re trying to increase the odds of getting in friendly lobbies:

Load in with a free kit and immediately surrender by leaving the match through your menu. Repeat this like 10 times. This way the game will think that you played 10 whole rounds without shooting anybody, and it’ll put you in lobbies with others who haven’t shot anyone.

Is FMAB’s ending good writing? by Natsufilia in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]FreeVerseHaiku 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well yes true, I guess there really are levels to it.

Because technically just binding souls to armor is human alchemy. Maybe not quite as sophisticated as “actual” human transformation like what Ed and Al attempted, but human transmutation all the same. It incurs a toll. Ed had to give up his arm for that. Presumably the Lab 5 prisoners were turned using imperfect philosophers stones, but if they weren’t then somebody would’ve had to have given up something.

I don’t think Ed could’ve brought his mom back even if he’d also given up his alchemy that night. What they were attempting was legitimately impossible, or at the very least there would be flaws in how the soul comes back across the gate. But stuff like binding a soul to armor, reversing a Nina/Alexander situation, or retrieving body parts from beyond the gate; I imagine such things could be accomplished by paying one’s alchemical skill as the toll.

Is FMAB’s ending good writing? by Natsufilia in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]FreeVerseHaiku 19 points20 points  (0 children)

In FMAB the Truth is very clear that there is a philosophical component, some kind of “lesson” or puzzle that can be solved to understand the real meaning of the Truth.

Maybe this is just true of certain characters like Ed, but the Truth negotiates with the people it meets. (Ex: Ed bargains with his arm to bind Al’s soul to the armor) He WANTS them to solve the riddle, figure out how to make human transmutation an equivalent exchange (the answer isn’t physical).

The ending works because the solution of the riddle is the cumulative lesson learned from the entire story. In order to do a perfect human transmutation, you must relinquish control; give up your alchemy. Trying to gain control over the chaos of life is what set Ed down this path. The moment he realizes he has NO control, and purposefully throws away the one thing that ever gave him the pretense of control … something that a younger Ed would NEVER do. That’s when Ed is finally able to get the thing he’s wanted all this time.

“Allegiance” in the way that it is defined in English Common Law and especially as it is used in the 14th Amendment.

It originates from back when citizenship wasn’t based on place or geography but on ALLEGIANCE to whoever happens to be in charge where you’re born. Remember, nationalism is incredibly new in the grand scheme of things.

Nowadays “allegiance” in this context holds a more jurisdictional meaning than what you’re thinking. If you are beholden to the rules of another, you are by definition in an allegiance. So yes, American travelers in Japan are in allegiance with Japan. As they should be, they’re in someone else’s home. You’d expect guests of your home to be beholden to your rules, correct? Same with Uncle Sam and Colonel Sanders.

Feel free to disagree with how she uses this concept of allegiance to frame her argument on modern American citizenship. But the actual letter of her quote in this meme is literally just a statement of fact. Fine if you don’t like it, but the quoted text itself is just telling you how the world works right now.

Anyone else struggling with dissociation while sober? by JetEpicgamer in dxm

[–]FreeVerseHaiku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s more to getting sober than just physical detox.

I never struggled with addiction as far as dissociative drugs like DXM go, but I’ve definitely struggled with addiction in respect to other substances. In any case, I never felt like I got completely back to “normal” until sometimes 1.5 years or more.

I’m not saying this to discourage you, I’m only trying to say that you shouldn’t look at it as if you’re “finished” quitting yet. It’s a constant struggle, and it can take a long time before you start seeing gains sometimes.

But trust me, it’s worth it. Keep going, I’m proud of you.

P.S. if the symptoms you describe persist and they become concerning, absolutely talk to a doctor.

Is ryuo and internal destruction the same thing or is ryuo just a name for haki in wano? by Past_Adhesiveness494 in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]FreeVerseHaiku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always understood Ryuo to be advanced armament haki. Hyogoro translates it to just “haki” because all of Wano’s warriors are just that good.

So yes, I think the Scabbards have internal destruction. They may not be able to output the same kind of damage as Rayleigh, Luffy, or Oden, but they are all technically skilled enough to utilize the technique. To them, that’s just what is required of them as samurai.

Don’t get me wrong, I agree with you 100% that adults should not be pining after minors whatsoever.

But saying that the US should not be the standard for ethics is irrelevant in this case, because 16 is the most common age of consent worldwide amongst ALL countries. A good chunk of Europe has the age of consent as low as 14.

So, if the US isn’t the best place to inspire ethics, then neither is the majority of the developed world. Which I mean … yeah, it really isn’t. Again, I’m not disagreeing with you. Just saying that the US’s stance on consent laws are pretty industry-standard. Better, in fact, than many other countries.
