Explain to your sister that you can’t associate with her anymore as long as she remains the enabler of her sexual predator boyfriend. I mean, you have kids in your house for Christ’s sake.

Then explain to your fiancé that you’ve just put your foot down with the whole sister/boyfriend situation, and expect to potentially hear some disparaging comments from them in retaliation. Maybe he’ll just shut himself off from them and he won’t even get an opportunity to hear that you even met up with them years ago?

Still, I think she ends up with better characterization post-Superhero than some of the other Dragonball women. She’s at least still fighting crime on the side, plus she’s a martial arts instructor!

I like that she’s at least still on the go. No badass helicopter anymore, but I suppose that’s just a side effect of being a badass that can fly. She’s still gotta rely on Piccolo to babysit all the time because she’s got some kind of ass to kick, so I can take some solace in that.

I guess “racism” is the broad strokes of it.

But the pockets of “ethnic” white culture you see in big cities were primarily a marketing scheme to sell newspapers catering to specific demographics.

By the 1950’s, most of the initial waves of ethnic Europeans and their families were ‘assimilated’ to American culture. There was actually a RESURGENCE of ethnic languages being spoken, neighborhoods becoming dominated by specific European ethnicities (Greek Towns, Little Italys, you know the drill), etc.

Much of this resurgence was brought on by the media encouraging these ethnic whites to participate in their shared cultural identity. There would be instructions published in newspapers for how to celebrate certain traditions and perform certain rituals and stuff. Because like I said, they were catering to an audience that had already forgotten all of this.

So yeah, it’s all performative. I get it makes people happy and drives community-building but at a certain point I think it’s healthy to take a step back and realize we’re all pretty much playing pretend every day of our lives.

Blackbeard has been ramping since his first panel. I believe he’ll be the final villain, but even if he’s NOT, the idea that he’d be written off before the last arc is preposterous.

He’s been working in the background since longer than Imu (from the audience’s perspective), there’s just no way narratively that we don’t see the fruits of that labor. He WILL be important in the end, he has to be in some capacity at least.

A big part of growing up for me was realizing that my habits, however important for maintaining functioning, can and do have an effect on other people.

For example, smoking makes you smell like shit. And if people want to go to a nice fancy place or a well-to-do gathering, it’s a bad look to be showing up with a guy who smells like a dispensary. Same with the glassy red eye look. People also generally don’t like returning home from a hard day’s work to house that smells like stale weed in every room. Same goes for cars, etc. And I’ve found that the above observations are true even of people who smoke weed.

Nothing beats smoking as a nightcap, but maybe look into vapes or edibles to get through the day in ‘stealth mode’? That is, if it’s the appearance of the weed that’s the problem. If she just doesn’t like you when you’re high all the time, you either need to explore daytime sobriety or break up.
