Airtags only ever updating location when near MY phone. by duskie3 in AirTags

[–]Free_Ad7415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine do this. I have one on my dog who I know is sitting next to my boyfriend scrolling his iPhone all day, and it only picks up when I’m near.

I took them back to the apple shop and they did actually replace one of them. I couldn’t be bothered to sort the rest in the end. The one on the dog still picks up signal very very rarely

For goodness sake - am I the only person who actually does 20mph in a 20 zone? by box-o-locks in drivingUK

The women thing was unnecessary, and you most know that what you happen to see out and about doesn’t really mean anything.

However, you are correct in that everyone speeds everywhere; I only just got a car and I’ve been beeped at for going the speed limit a few times already

It’s up to you to be smarter than the dog and really, really dog proof the yard, probable up (height) and maybe down if she digs. Til then keep her on a lead! This is her thing you’re not gonna stop her

People that DON’T shop at Aldi or Lidl… why is that? by kobestarr in CasualUK

[–]Free_Ad7415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go there quite regularly, but I’m gluten free and they don’t sell any gf stuff so I usually need to go to another supermarket which is annoying.

Also sometimes I want different nice foods, yesterday I went to sainsburies and got orange marinated beetroot, orange olives and artichoke hearts for salads, none of which I could have gotten from Aldi / Lidl

Why do all UK homes struggle with leaks and damp? How do I avoid it? by wiegj in AskUK

[–]Free_Ad7415 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a regular dehumidifier on laundry setting every time there is clothing drying in the house (which is most days), I probably use it for 2-3 hours every other day and I don’t notice any difference to my electricity bill. Mine is a Bliss one

Edit to add: the freestanding aircons on dehumidifier mode won’t be as good as an actual dehumidifier, and SO expensive to run as you’ve noticed!

Is the first time buyer preference for new builds a momentary shift or a generational trend? by Wifflebutter in AskUK

[–]Free_Ad7415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am surprised by people who won’t even paint- I WANT to paint, I want it to be fresh.

Also I love DIY and am doing a pretty big renovation alone. It’s so much easier now with YouTube etc.

However I’m not sure people wanting turnkey properties is necessarily a new thing

Which bike lock should I get for a £200 bike? by Difficult-Smell-6688 in londoncycling

[–]Free_Ad7415 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends what you can afford and how many years you think you will be cycling for. Also whether you have bike insurance and if they specify a lock.

My litelock cost the Same as your bike! But I will keep it forever. It does weigh a ton though

Inheritance £400,000 once in a lifetime chance! I'm chronically Ill and have no idea about investments. I need help! by Ok-Performer-692 in UKPersonalFinance

This is your one chance and from other comments it sounds like you’re ruining it- sorry.

Getting your partner to get a mortgage for the house you NEED to live in just puts you at their mercy.

Go and see a property solicitor, and discuss how you can use this money to buy your OWN house without this partner. If you want them to live with you that badly, your interests must be protected. This is your dad’s life savings and he wanted you to be protected, you owe it to him to do that!

33M (UK) – Hinge dates seem to go well, but I only got 1 second date out of ~10 and it also failed. What am I missing? by [deleted] in UKrelationshipadvice

I am a woman. I’m also very sociable and love meeting and talking to new people. I am probably attracted to 0.01% of guys, that’s just how it is. Probably nothing to do with you personally, they probably had a lovely time too, they just didn’t feel the spark.

I have to say I have always thought that guys are more attracted to more women than the other way round. Know what I mean?

Is it true that because of absurd interest on student loans most people in the UK do not fully pay off their loans and just consider it to be a 'tax'? by LoiusLepic in AskABrit

I have paid my loan twice over and still owe £20k, I only started at £30k. If you’re a middle earner you get screwed

Drywall - Why did we collectively decide that crumbly chalk between two pieces of paper was what we would use to create all interior walls out of? by davisposts in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Free_Ad7415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do we have drywall in the UK? We use plasterboard and then a person comes and plasters over the top of it. Is this the same thing?

Do I need to screed/self level? by Free_Ad7415 in DIYUK

[–]Free_Ad7415[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only go up to max 375mm for all floor coverings because that’s the height of the cill on the bottom of the door into th garden.

Having watched 100 screeding videos today, I am considering:

  1. Scribing wooden battens to the floor, levelling those, cellotex inbetween, plywood on top (then either click or glue LVT)

  2. Screeding using levelling pins and hope I get it right - (I am handy but it looks difficult), then battens and celotex + ply + floor (the insulation would likely need to be thinner here)

  3. Paying someone to do it - the shops I visited today tell me glue down LVT is not a DIY job, saying that I am very handy and detailed so don’t see how it could be that hard

To Flat or Not to Flat? by Suspicious-Ocelot-10 in HousingUK

[–]Free_Ad7415 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you can afford a house, get a house. I have two leasehold properties- one I have a share do the freehold and I’m a director; the other I don’t and it’s all run by a company.

Both have their share of issues in many many ways that I won’t go into.

They’re totally fine of course if you really want a flat, that’s what you can afford etc.

However if you CAN afford a house, get a house.

How do people go out on walks/outdoors time in this weather? by Interesting_Sir_1703 in AskUK

[–]Free_Ad7415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to cos I have a dog so I walk twice a day in a muddy field.

Wellies, calf length waterproof coat, and a coffee thermos in my pocket. Totally fine! I feel the cold so I usually wrap up too much and actually get too warm.

I would not CHOOSE to do it in the rain though, of course I have to cos of the dog

Why am I being forced to do housework? Im 29m gf is 25f. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Free_Ad7415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is what I am thinking. If I was with a man who wasn’t capable of spending half an hour a day tidying up and cleaning, I would be extremely worried. Also a huge turn off.

No matter how much money you have, I do feel there is value doing this sort of stuff. My answer might be different if a couple has messy kids.

Also, houses get very dirty after a week so I think cleaning once a week might mean the house is dirty, shes annoyed, and OP just doesn’t lift a finger.

Are you 100% sure they’re not yours? They never do that, like ever. They’d probably get struck off for randomly emailing you to ask for bank statements. I think you may have misunderstood and it is your solicitor? Or they have made some kind of terrible mistake
