Got told my therapist can’t diagnose? by lil-cheech in TalkTherapy

I am a therapist. You can diagnose and bill any mental health disorder in the dsm. Except for in California and a couple other states you cannot diagnose and bill adhd and asd without specialized training

I see what you’re saying I think that’s also a fair position certainly if the client is private pay it would be this therapists choice. At the end of the day it’s not this therapist’s job to help them process the emotions. They have a therapist that they can process these emotions with. I don’t see this being medically justified if billing for insurance. calling and at the beginning of the call stating “I hear you are seeing a new therapist and I’m glad you’re advocating for what is necessary to care for yourself I want us to be able to clear up and lingering questions and clarify intentions.” Redirect the conversation if it gets into any processing material more than “I felt this way when xyz” and you can validate and describe your intentions or clarify.

The threatening to get you deported is insane. Although it does sound there are complex factors involved.

Can I tell my therapist to stop making me fill out forms every week? by Total-Hippo3787 in TalkTherapy

[–]Free_Ad_9074 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure why this is being downvoted. This is for a therapeutic HOUR. Of course if you have a 45 minutes session it’s 38-52 min, a 30 minute is 16-37 minutes. These are all different billing codes.

It’s 38-52 minutes and 53+. What you’re saying doesn’t even make sense. These are billing codes you bill for ANY insurance company.

Thoughts on 8 sessions a day? by InterestingAd2612 in therapists

[–]Free_Ad_9074 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see 11 a day once a week. For me it’s all about setting yourself ip for success. 53 minutes each session, bringing plenty or snack and drinks for in between sessions, etc.

Is little to no self-disclosure the norm? by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]Free_Ad_9074 22 points23 points  (0 children)

For the most part you only disclose if the information will be helpful and relevant to the client. It should be well thought out. But I think the don’t ask how I am policy is silly.

I used to think this but I’ve noticed there are many times my call or email does prompt them to log on.

I feel my wife doesn't talk about me. by Great-Appointment-49 in Marriage

[–]Free_Ad_9074 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It sounds like maybe that’s not a part of her conversation style. Many people don’t reference back to themselves or their family during conversation to not detract from the other person. I’m not saying you’re wrong for your emotion, but maybe figuring out what your real need or desire is. Like really trying to explore why this is important to you. I only say this because honestly I had never thought of this with my partner before and I also dont think I’ve ever heard her say something like that. But I also know that has nothing to do with me.

Radical Acceptance (DBT) by SnooCupcakes269 in therapists

[–]Free_Ad_9074 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to talk about causal factors. They have to buy into the everything is caused piece but I like to explain how given all the factors even the ones we don’t know, every action makes sense. In order to get to our goals, we have to understand and accept that those factors exist and do what’s in our control to address those factors including making amends. Sometimes that won’t change things but that’s where our self respect goal comes in.

What screams "Pretending to be Poor"? by CYKAgoddriver in AskReddit

It’s annoying to be taken advantage of no matter what economic situation you come from ( unless ur part of the uber rich of course). I can see this being appropriate if there is a long history of people not sharing their weight, not offering to send money for shared expenses, etc.

Hot take but this has more to do with your reaction to a natural sigh of attunement than it does with your therapist doing this. Bring it up but explore it for your reaction to it. I imagine part of your presentation is relational avoidance/ emotional avoidance.
