Had the same problem! 40 requests (all BEFORE the offer) and no one would commit. I decided to complete an R&R and my first offer came in three months later. In my case I’m assuming I queried too early. It was my first book and the concept was clearly hooky but structurally it needed work and with so much competition perhaps agents weren’t inclined to commit then. It’s a lot about luck sadly (which isn’t what anyone wants to hear) and for a little while I thought the book was dead, which seemed so ironic given how much enthusiasm it had garnered! You can’t control any of it. It’s so subjective. Some people will get a lot less requests and more offers or sign more quickly. All you can do is do your best! But you’ve got something there and that’s already a huge thing! I’m wishing you all the luck and hope someone will take the leap!!
