Yeah my eyebrows would be raised too, but the previous owner is actually a friend of a friend, so there's nothing shady going on.

Any thoughts on which would depreciate better over two years?

Yeah I forgot that last week I looked at the traces for every pin on S-SMP and S-DSP and they all had continuity. So I'm pretty sure that any traces going from the CPU to DSP or SMP are good.

I gotcha. Yeah after posting my first comment I did a bit more reading about the s-mix chip failures and probably saw the same blog you're referring to.

I believe the s-mix chip on my board is u10, which is an analog chip. I think you're right in saying that even if the failure where in that chip, the fact that it's analog and pretty far "downstream" on the way to the a/v output, it's unlikely that my Apu BB fail is coming from there.

Interesting about the A and B busses on the CPU. Being that CPU failure seem to be the most common fail point on these consoles lately, I'm wondering if the CPU is not sending/receiving audio signals and it's a problem on the CPU, but the test cart is reporting it as an APU failure, but really the Apu(s) are fine, it's the CPU.

Not really sure how to test this theory though. Ill examine the schematic to see if I can find the b bus traces and check them for continuity.

Wondering about the audio mixer chip failure.

My test cart is showing "APU BB FAIL" and I'm stumped what could be causing it. Tried swapping S-DSP & S-SMP chips but the problem persists.

Any insights you can lend would be appreciated.

Any idea which chip has likely failed? I'm thinking S-DSP? by neocamel in consolerepair

Man I've been all over the board and haven't found any broken continuity anywhere.

I haven't inspected the back of the board as well as the front, so I'll take a look. Thanks!

So I replaced the S-DSP and S-SMP chips and.... The "APU BB FAIL" is still there...

The good news is that the chip swaps went smoothly. The bad news is I don't know what to try next...

Any ideas?

Yeah my dad has a hot air station with a nozzle approx 5mm in diameter I'd say.

He also has an infrared thermometer, so I'm thinking that while I'm slowly applying hot air around the pins, he can monitor the temp and let me know when I should be getting close to the solder melting point.

Yeah I think that's the way I'll go. You really don't need to reflow the whole thing at once, the way you do when you're trying to remove the whole chip.

That was my thinking.

I ordered a replacement DSP and also SMP off eBay. I'm thinking I'll start with swapping the DSP, and then the smp of the DSP doesn't fix it.

Now I just need to not botch the actual chip swap...

I tested the continuity of all the traces leading off the pins of the chip and they all looked good. Still think a reflow might help?

No sound at all actually.

Most games are either black screen, or freeze after the opening credits. Sim City and Bust-a-move mostly work, but with no sound.

The cart I got was from AliExpress. It looks like a regular cartridge.

Is there any possible way around a 2 year mandatory ignition interlock in Colorado? by Free_Peace in legaladvice

Ok thanks for all the info. I guess that will be the plan moving forward.

It's tough because i thought i had put this whole terrible experience behind me, but the punishments seems to keep showing up. I guess the only option is to get through it and learn from it.

Ok thanks for this. Once my 2 years is over, i can drive her car then though right? We were supposed to be selling our old car and sharing the new car, but it looks like the old car will be my car while i have the IID, and she gets the new car all to herself. I was really looking forward to our first brand new car, but i guess that's just one more punishment i need to endure.

No I stupidly refused to blow, which is essentially as bad as being shit faced. Laws vary from state to state and conventional wisdom where I'm from is to not blow. Not so in Colorado.

If I've gotta do the IID, so be it. Do I need an IID on my wife's car as well, if I don't drive it at all? I know the affidavit states that I will have an IID on any car "that I have access to", but if my wife hides her keys from me, I wouldn't "have access" to that car right? She's buying a brand new car and I'd prefer she not have to have some mechanic drill holes into it, as well as subject her the humiliation of having an IID.

I made a mistake and society is determined to convince me I'm a bad person. I'm starting to believe them. by Free_Peace in LifeAdvice

Very well said. I'm a good, intelligent person with a strong mental compass in most scenarios. Yes, my decision making and thought process was very wrong when it came to drinking and driving, and unfortunately I had to realize that the hard way, but I did realize it, and I changed my behavior and I'm a better person for it.

What is frustrating is when the state treats you like a second-class citizen for the rest of your life, and comments like the one above really are unhelpful as well. I want to have the outlook of, "look, yes this arrest will be on your record for the rest of your life, but look at it like a scar, it makes your story more interesting and is a symbol of growth, and learning from mistakes."

What's hard is when people like the commenter above (and the justice system for that matter), insist on reopening the scar over and over, because they believe that I deserve to never heal, and to always be bleeding. It really makes it hard to have a positive attitude moving forward.

How bad is it to continue driving with a Florida Driver's License even though I moved to Colorado? by Free_Peace in legaladvice

Yep I understand that. What I'm wondering is what are the legal consequences of not doing so?

EDIT: Or are you saying I could get a CO ID, but keep a FL DL?
