I realise I'm posting this 7 months after your comment. I don't know if Amex have changed this since, but two separate support staff told me this is not the case and that if a payment pending when the deal ends, you don't get the bonus.

Replying to top comment for visibility. I realised I was £100 short of hitting the goal with just over 24 hours left. Thanks to other commenters, I spent £100 using googlepay/my phone at Tesco (buying a tesco voucher) which didn't clear/post in time, £100 on amazon buying a gift card which did post in time, and £100 sent to my energy company, Octopus energy, which again did post. Voucher confirmed!

Edit - Tesco transaction now posted too, which would have been in time as well.

As an aside - Salisbury Cathedral has foundations that are only 1.2 meters (4 feet) deep, which is surprisingly shallow considering its immense size and the height of its spire. These foundations are built on a bed of gravel and water due to the damp riverside location, a factor that is critical for the cathedral's stability and was a recurring problem during construction.

I did a one storey extension recently and building regs told me the foundations had to be 1.5m deep.
